Has anyone tried these low cost, portable devices in order to hear your own baby's heart?

WHat devices have been tried, and what are the recommendations?

The recommendations are not to buy them, typically, for fear of increasing anxiety rather than reducing it (it is not always easy to find the heartbeat because of positioning), and because lay people might misinterpret what they hear (and of course, heart traces in the hossie are more detailed / accurate etc. etc.)

Having said that, someone in FIL's office was contemplating importing a product which did this and had a sample which we kept while dw was pg. We only used it a few times -we didn't 'abuse' it because we had it in the house IYSWIM, so it won't necessarily turn you into a doppler junky ! The few times when we thought 'hmmm, haven't felt anything for a while, let's have a listen' we tried it and found it worked well.

THT (a bit)

(I mean HTH)

i used one with my first pregnancy and loved it, it gave me an insight into my wriggling unborn's world, hearing the heart beat when i wanted to helped me bond with my dd before she was born.sold it on ebay when i had my dd and got nearly as much as i paid for it.

Redtartanlass · 01/02/2006 22:50

stevep4, I had one when pregnant with dd. I found listening to it in bed, when I couldn't sleep in the last weeks of pregnancy, very, very relaxing. Very hypnotic, maybe it brought back memories of when I was in the womb

It was a bebesounds Prenatal heart listener by Unisar. I thought it was great but I lent it to a pregnant friend who hated it!!!

We are 4 months preggers and so far, not a hint of nausea, or morning sickness. No bad backs and no weight increase (ok, wiffy is a size 16 and is eating quite a well balanced diet now, so is probably maintaining weight rather than losing the christmas pudding).

As such, the only evidence of Junior is the ultrasound photos (20 week scan next week) and hearing the heart beat at recent midwife visit. Plus needing a lot more sleep (wiffy, not me!!)

I suppose things will start changing more over the coming weeks and some belly evidence will occur (only been in maternity trousers for 3 weeks).

It just seems strange, thats all. We painted the "nursery" last week, plus have been e-baying for cots, prams etc...and we both still ask ourselves, "why are we doing this"??? It still does not seem real...

ahhh we felt like that! despite my MASSIVE bump... lol

it was only really, real when i held him...

hub2dee · 01/02/2006 23:04

Don't worry, your 20 week scan will show you a very recognisable blob of baby !!!!

Redtartanlass · 01/02/2006 23:07

I know...it doesn't seem real. We had one of those 3d scans done. I cried my eyes out and DP felt more 'connected' if that's the right word!!

An amazing experience

Here's a pic of her smiling in the womb.

another link

I don't know, don't do a link for months and then 2 in one thread!!!

i had the unisar fetal heart listener and i couldn't hear anything but the traffic outside our flat!!

think it's probably a bit hit and miss depending on position of baby.

a waste of money for me
