Can anyone recommend a moisturisier for very dry skin, I have tried lots of creams on my face and after an hour my face feels tight and dry again. Also my skin is a little sensetive but is blemish free.

Any tips are much appreciated.

I use SIMPLE - it works wonders for my dry skin.

jampots · 31/01/2006 22:51

I use Clinique Dramatically Different. They do a more intensive cream though.

Ponds do a moisturiser for very dry skin.

Dh uses it and I do occasionaly. He suffers with very dry sensitive skin and slightest thing will set it off but he gets on quite well with that.

Not expensive either.

I used to use Prescriptives which is good but expensive. I have put myself on a bit of an economy drive as I am maternity leave. I have started using some Olay stuff - which is working fine. I have dry skin and am getting mature IYKWIM.

avon is cheap and does a dry skin relief range.

MarsOnLife · 01/02/2006 09:07

I have very dry skin and I use Vaseline Intensive Care, Aloe Fresh, body lotion.

You can get it in the supermarket. Fab stuff!

bramblina · 01/02/2006 09:10

What do you wash your face with? I had problem similar to yours and have since found Boots Botanics do a foaming face wash with extracts of rice (?) and it's the only thing I can find that doesn't dry. Then because I go greasy easily I found Clarity by Superdrug which has a matt finish. All very cheap but works well 4 me.

Ive tried everything but at the moment Im washing my face with Eucerin sensitive facial cleansing gel but it does leave my skin really dry, last night I used Eucerin Extremely dry skin treatment crean before going to bed and that seemed to work but Im not sure if that is for facial use, it says on the package its for eczema and other dry skin conditions but I dont think I have those dry skin conditions.

My skin is lacking in moisture according to the beauty therapist I seen on Saturday. Im trying to drink more water to see if that helps.

I use the same stuff as Mars (but not the Aloe Vera one - I think the one in the yellow bottle which is for extra dry skin).

I also got some diprobase from the chemist for really bad days (you can get it on prescription) - it's a moisturiser normally used by people with eczema or dry, sore skin and I've found it's one of the only moisturising creams that keeps the skin on my face soft for any length of time.

I started using Eucerin lipo balance (get it from big Boots) about 2 months ago, I've always had dry skin but it went mentally dry and excema-y suddenly, and this stuff is for dry and sensitive. It's bloody fantastic and my skin feels better than it's ever been, I don't need foundation any more and seeing as I'm a hag of 41 that's not bad! I'm quite evangelical about it - it's half the price of clinique etc, goes under makeup better than anything I've ever used, and works out even cheaper as I use it for day and night.

I take vitamin E and evening primrose oil supplements for dry skin. Also use face washes without Sodium Laureth Sulphate in them - it is a cheap and harsh foaming agent and dries out my skin terribly.

trix1 · 01/02/2006 09:47

Gingerbear - this Eucerin face wash has Sodium Laureth Sulphate in it - Ive just checked, what face wash do you use?

Turquoise - I will give the Eucerin Lipo balance a go. Thanks.

Origins do some fab clensers and moisturisers for v dry skin, completely changed mine. Often ahve special offer packs with a moisturiser and then smaller pots of other products for free.

melrose · 01/02/2006 09:51

Just read the rest of the thread. I suggest you don't use water at all in cleaning your face. use a clenser yuou take off with cotton wool instead. Think you will find it makes a huge difference! I have always had dry skin and if I ever wash my face it is awful!

lapsedrunner · 01/02/2006 09:51

Try Aveeno Cream, It's not a specific face cream but is brilliant for exczema. It is made from colloidal oatmeal.

Babydaze · 01/02/2006 14:15

I use Dream Cream from Lush. It's fab for v dry skin & excema. I also use it on my baby DD's face as v. gentle, all natural ingredients. I'm using Simple on my face at the mo but it's just ok - not moisturising enough for moi. I prefer Clinique creams but v. pricey.

Gingerbear · 01/02/2006 14:36

Green People vitamin wash has no SLS in it. You can buy online or I can get it at local Sainsbury's.

Babydaze · 01/02/2006 23:46

Just wondering - Do you all use your body lotion for face? I don't. I usually use a separate one with a sun factor. Because it says it's suitable for body does that automatically mean you can use it on your face?

Dr. Hauschka - Rose Day Cream and normal moisturiser - fabulous for sensitive skins and you only need a little bit. Works at treat here in Colorado where the air is so dry only on average 20% humidity big difference from Fife. It's not cheap but well worth the investment.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 02/02/2006 07:20

Look for glycerin in the ingredients. This helps keep the skin humid - which will stop the tight feeling.

Kittypickle · 02/02/2006 07:43

I find that using Rosehip or Jojoba oil on a slightly damp skin helps me, rather than a cream mosituriser which usually have a water content of approx 70%. Apricot Kernal oil and Macademia nut oil are great for dry skin, you can mix several together as you feel like it and as they last for ages it's pretty cheap. I was a bit worried at first that my face would be left like an oil slick, but they absorb well.
