Washable nappies at night, how many boosters??

Calling all washable nappy users. My ds has been using washable nappies since about 8 weeks old, but I've always put him in a disposable at night, especially now at 1year, he sleeps for about 13hours. Lucky me! My question is to anyone who uses washables at night, which last the full night on a male of the species, who I've been told wet more than most. Tried a motherese with a booster, and he was awake at 4am absolutely sodden. Am going to try two boosters tonight to see if that works. Have also recently bought a couple of the totsbots nappies after all the wonderful recommendations on the review board. How many boosters does anyone recommend with these?
Thanks for any advise!

Honeybunny, I use Totsbots but I am very lucky in that ds hardly wees when he is sleeping so I dont even use a booster at night. However, with the piece inside the nappy folded back and one booster it is quite thick (I occasionally use one booster) but I think I have read on one of the threads that someone has used two??? You could use two and give it a good squash down. Tots bots are brill and you might find you dont need to use two boosters. What liners are you using? I use the fleece liners which are brilliant at keeping ds really dry even when the nappy is very wet.

I also use Tots Bots and use the special 3 layer booster for DS who is 2 years old.
Tots Bots are also on offer via this site. I think it's 10% off.
I agree with the fleece liners. They are brilliant.

Pupuce · 17/11/2001 20:54

Honeybunny... I agree with both posts. I would add that bevause te nappy feels wet to you, it may not be so wet inside - especially if you use a fleece liner.
I was very suprised about that myself.
I also use the 3 layer booster.

Thanks for postings everyone...
have now received my totsbots nappies, washed and ready to go. I'm trying the fleece liners too. To date we've been using PHP env friendly paper liners which have been fine during the day, but these new ones feel lovely. DS has one on now so will be interesting to see how it feels later. The 4am nappy was definitely dripping, I put my hand inside and ds skin was wet, and once changed settled immediately without cuddles or milk top ups so I'm sure it was just the wetness he was unused to and uncomfortable with. Will be going for 2boosters and a fleece liner tonight, will let you know!

Be aware that it takes a few washimg for the Tots Bots to reach their peak. I'd say within 7 wash they will stay dryer longer and dry faster.

Thanks for that info, Pupuce. I've just started and they take forever and a day to dry. It's good to know that in a week or two it'll be quicker. My son poohed around 9 times yesterday.. nice messy ones that required a new nappy every time. The tot-bots were great though-- nothing came out onto his clothes! Can't say that for the disposables we had.

Did you ever get the nappy rash thing sorted out? My son is getting it with these nappies, although it's probably because there was tea tree oil in the nappy bucket. What was it for you?

Pupuce · 18/11/2001 12:59

Well I still get the odd nappy rash with DD (3 months old). The nappy lady told me it was probably due to the detergent I use and I think she is right. I now use very little (1 table spoon) and only use Ecover laundry Bleach once a week (I think that causes the redness actually). I use the bleach because the nappies don't come out stainless everytime, I am using a short programme (45 minutes).
Do you have a tumble dryer ? If so, I dry on a "heavy fabric" cycle.
Tots Bots are terries after all, like your bath towels and they also become more absorbant and dryer the older they get... don't they ?

Jj · 19/11/2001 10:43

Thanks for the info. Now to find some clothes that fit over the nappies!

Joe1 · 19/11/2001 11:20

I have been using my totsbots for five months now and yes they do get more absorbant and do tend to dry quicker as they get older.

Plushpants · 21/11/2001 22:45

Hi, Honeybunny - if I'm not too late on this discussion! I never got on too well with the Motherease nappies on either my son or my daughter However, at night I have found the Popo ultrafit terry is absolutely brilliant - it's incredibly absorbent and, like the Motherease, comes with an additional booster. It's an incredibly thirsty nappy and I've had lots of success with it on even very heavy wetters. It's roomy enough to add another booster in, too - though you might need to go up a size in wraps at that point!

Inky · 25/11/2001 13:57

Has anyone got the tots bots with and without velcro and how do they compare? I'm going to order some but not sure which. Also, what wraps do you use? The totsbots people themselves don't actually sell wraps do they?

I've got at the mo Air Rika or Rikki wraps, can't remember - got little fish on them & fasten with velcro. You can also get them with poppers but I was worried the poppers would tear off the delicate material easily. Again - any experience with these anybody?

Joe1 · 25/11/2001 17:41

Inky, I use totsbots with velcro, which are very easy to use, specially on a wriggly toddler. I use the wraps with poppers which I have no problem with and dont look like they are about to tear. I do have one wrap with velcro but prefer the poppers and so does dh, they are the Motherease ones.
Sorry dont have any experience with non velcro totsbots. I am extremely happy with what I am using.

Jj · 25/11/2001 19:55

My husband likes the velcro better, but I like the non-velcro.. I think because they dry more quickly. We have a baby, though. With a more mobile toddler, the velcro ones would proably be my choice.

Pupuce · 25/11/2001 20:32

I agree with Joe1. I have velcro Tots Bots only, they are great. I have wraps with poppers and they don't look like they would tear (I think they are Air Rikka but not sure - I'll check and if they are not I'll re-post).
Also very pleased with my stuff. I especially like the fleece liners : brilliant - they always feel dry !

Joe1 · 25/11/2001 21:27

Inky, forgot to mention, have you contacted the Nappy Lady? She has a website with a form you can fill in which outlines your need then they match everything to you. She will be able to advise on wraps liners etc (I know she will advise the fleece liners, they are brill).

Jj · 25/11/2001 22:27

Yes, try the Nappy Lady:
The Nappy Lady

The poppers pants are good for us, too. We have both and I like those better and they don't seem like they'll wear out.
