Toyota Verso anyone? Or what 5+2 seater?

I have 4 dcs (14, 12, 5 & 7m). DH has a Vito so family trips are fine. I have an aged Nissan Almera which is beginning to cost money. On a day to day basis it's generally ok unless it rains on a Wednesday (I collect dd2's friend on Wednesday and if it rains I like to drive as I might melt Wink). But sometimes DH goes away in his and then I can't go to the in laws to stay or anything as I simply can't fit everyone and everything in the car (add to dcs and luggage a collie!).

So am looking to replace with a 4ish year old 5+2 seater ideally. On my list are:

-Zafira: rented one recently and didn't like the fact that getting the seats out of the boot was such a palaver
-Mazda 5: hadn't twigged that the middle 'jump seat' was so small, so think this is off the list
-Renault Grand Scenic: DH is really suspicious of Renault's rep of poor electrics etc
-Citroen Grand Picasso: as with Renault
-Toyota Verso: seems to be the only thing with no down points so far but I have never been in one or known anyone with one, liking the Japanese engineering

There's a 57 plate 2.2d model at a garage up the road which has quite taken my fancy but I haven't got time to buy a turkey!

I would appreciate any reviews or suggestions of others. Please don't suggest a Multipla though. Don't think I could bring myself to!

We have had a Toyota Verso and loved it. I would definitely recommend it. We bought ours new and it came with built in DVD screens in the back of the front headrests and a DVD player fitted under the drivers seat and wireless headphones. It was so family friendly, spacious and utterly reliable.

That's what is luring me - the reliability. My Almera is not exactly sexy, but its now 12 years old and the worst spend was a full set of tyres!

We've had a few Toyotas over the years and do like them. We have also had a Renault Scenic RX4 (from new) which was shit. Rattly and poor electrics. Haven't had a Zafira but friends have one. It's a bit meh compared to the Toyota. I'd put the Citroen in the same category as the Renault.

You are a useful person aren't you?! DH won't even consider a Zafira (I don't think) as he never stopped griping about it when we rented one!

Thanks Blush

DH has a thing about cars. We have 2 and change them every year, so we've had loads.

We have an older Corolla Verso for the last 3 years, a 54 reg. It was bought to replace our completely reliable smaller corolla.

Complete nightmare, we spent over 2k on repairs last year. I think we've been unlucky but no more Toyotas for me after this.

cjbk1 · 29/02/2012 07:35

iv said it before and I'll say it again; our '08
corolla verso was brilliant and no problems
and I miss it every day (was a company car got new one now) Sad

SoupDragon · 29/02/2012 07:47

Personally, I wouldn't touch Renault - I've had 2 Laguna's in the past and the first was fine, the second was shockingly bad wrt the things that went wrong at MOT time even year.

Its not on your list but I love my Ford SMax :)

poorbuthappy · 29/02/2012 07:48

VW Touran?

letseatgrandma · 29/02/2012 07:52

We have a Zafira and you don't take the back seats out at all?!!

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 29/02/2012 07:58

We hired an 8 seater Toyota Verso (converted import, hence the extra seat) over Christmas and it was lovely. Really really nice to drive and park, and incredibly comfortable. I'm assuming as they had a whole fleet (most of which were converted to be mini campers) they must be reasonably reliable - wouldn't make much business sense otherwise.

Northernlurker · 29/02/2012 08:04

We have a touran. Worth a look?

DollyTwat · 29/02/2012 08:24

I test drove a zafira and hated it
I have a Toyota Verso and lOve it. Spacious, back 2 seats are proper seats that fold away
Very reliable
I had a Rav before and it was fab. 10 years and few problems just got too small

JarethTheGoblinKing · 29/02/2012 08:29

Yy to Touran or S-max

WhenDoISleep · 29/02/2012 08:33

We had a Nissan Almera which we traded in to a VW Touran at the beginning of the year. Been great so far.

buttonmoon78 · 29/02/2012 09:49

Sorry - letseat that wasn't well expressed. I meant that to put the seats in the boot up we seemed to have to pull the whole middle row forwards? Which is rubbish if you have car seats fitted by belt rather than isofix. Maybe we're doing it wrong then.

I'd forgotten about the Touran Blush Sounds like I need to do a little trawl of the garages locally and have a scout.

Thanks all!

I have a verso and it has been very reliable with good boot space when the back seats are folded away. However there is not much leg room in the 2 back seats, should be ok for your two younger children though.
