Ds is wearing a kilt and waistcoat to brother in laws wedding in January . Luckily for me my clever friend is making them, but I can't find a plain white shirt to go with it or any shoes that don't look like a version of trainers or desert boots. Anyone know where I should look
Thanks very much as he will look so cute and his cousin too (who will be 18mnths)

BHS?

wobblyknicks · 20/11/2003 00:30

What about verbaudet?

Ailsa · 20/11/2003 00:38

What about this it says unisex but the collar looks more like a girls, see what you think anyway, 5th item down the page. The only other white shirt I've seen recently is a crinkle shirt in Next.

Britabroad · 20/11/2003 06:31

Try Monsoon boys. I bought my DS one in Oct.

motherinferior · 20/11/2003 09:00

I would get him little shoes from bobux or daisy roots myself, but they might be too slipper-ish for you (and he can't wear the enchanting ballet pumps, I assume?)

Janstar · 20/11/2003 09:30

Like Twiglett, I found the only place that had one was John Lewis.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2003 09:35

Inch Blue have plain versions of leather soft slippers. I got a white shirt with a grandad collar from Gap for DS1 but it did have a tiny bear embroidered on the front pocket. Monsoon boys range is a good idea.

I got a white shirt with a collar for ds at Baby Gap - but that was few years ago (and like Soupdragon's, it had a wee teddy bear on the pocket). I think he was about 9 months - but small for his age.

For socks, get some of the white Gap "triple fold" socks and just pull them all the way up, not bothering with the folds.

We put ds into a kilt (actually, his cousin's kilted skirt) for a family reunion in germany when he was about 2. He looked dead cute. As it wasn't a formal event, we were able just to use his Scotland rugby shirt for the top half. I have a lovely photo of him, his dad and his grandad, all in kilts. The German, Danish, South American and South African relatives were all very impressed!

For a sporran, I used a wee leather purse thing which is supposed to hang around your neck that I'd bought in Greece. Accessorize might have something you could adapt.

You could plain bobux leather shoes and then make "pretend" laces with an ordinary lace, to give the effect of the full dress highland shoes.

colette · 20/11/2003 12:28

Thanks a lot
Ailsa that shirt looks ideal but I think it will be too small as he is in 3- 6mnth at least now
I will go into baby gap and then try looking at shoes. Thanks for all your replies.
JanZ what a wonderful photo, I will take one of 3 generations too even tho we are English
Also the 2 boys with their flowergirl sisters

I've also remembered that ds had a long sleeved body with a collar that I found in Mothercare (to go with a smart trouser and waistcoat combination he'd been given) - that might also suit your purposes, if you could find something similar.

LIZS · 20/11/2003 13:50

Colette

You might find one in Mothercre or Debenhams etc as part of their Christmas ranges, often sold with a waistcoat/bow tie though which you may not want. ds had one from Babygap (no bear !) at around same age. For shoes, if you don't fancy daisy Root/ Bobux slippers, you may find some Padders in soft fancy fabrics - boot style with plastic studded cotton sole, try John Lewis or Debenhams - or Next do little sizes.

Jaybee · 20/11/2003 16:30

Children Salon are pretty good for stuff like this - can be pricey as often has designer stuff but has a special occasion range and a christening range. Just had a look and found this one - may be worth looking further into that site though for others. Third one down is from age 1.

jmg · 20/11/2003 16:42

BHS used to do them inthe ir wedding clothes department, next to little bridesmaids dresses.

Bozza · 20/11/2003 16:53

I bought DS one from Adams in the summer for my sister's wedding. Not sure BHS go so small.

fio2 · 20/11/2003 17:09

how old is he? I've got one 18-24months never worn if you want it. It's short sleeves though and although all white has like square stitching on the front, quite trendy though.

popsycal · 20/11/2003 19:27

debenhams?
we got ds one for our wedding...yes i know....
but he was a bit older

miranda2 · 20/11/2003 20:06

I wanted a dress shirt for my 6mos christening (to go with a waistcoat I'd made) - ended up with a white jersey (girls) top from mothercare which had vertical frills down the front and looked quite effective! Might still have it around somewhere...

colette · 21/11/2003 13:15

Thanks again
Fio2 he will be 7mnths but I appreciate the offer. It is great the help you get on mumsnet:0
