Quilt for my bed

This might seem like a daft quetsion, but I'd like to know whether it is worth paying more money for a quilt for my bed

We have a King Sized bed but I use a Superking quilt (otherwise dh & I end up in battle of the quilts). Since swapping from our summer weight to the winter weight (13.5 tog) I haven't slept very well and keep end up fighting with it and can't seem to get comfy. It seems heavy and bulky, but I do want something warm and snuggly, so don;t want to go back to the 6.5 tog summer quilt.

It was a relatively cheap one, from Dunelm Mill or somewhere like that (I probably paid £15-20 for it). I don't know if it's just me or whether a more expensive quilt would lie better on the bed and over me. Do the the non-feathery ones (can't have feathers as I'm asthmatic) come in different qualities?

I'm dreadful - I go to John Lewis or somewhere and spend ages fondling the different types of duvet - there are loads of different types/qualities of synthetic ones.
I have the opposite problem from you in that I don't feel adequately 'covered' if the duvet is too light, regardless of the tog rating, so I wanted something with a bit of weight to it.
From what I remember the cheaper ones tended to be heavier and the more expensive ones lighter. The JL Premier Light ones are meant to be as light as a down duvet but are over £100 for a superking(!)
