Anyone use a Mooncup when it is your period? Is it any good?

I like the idea of mooncups - less waste and body friendly etc etc - but just want to know if anyone actually thinks they're any good. They are pricey, which is fine if it saves you and arm and a leg on tampons/pads etc but not so fine if you don't get on with it. What are your experiences please? (I have been on product review page and it isn't there)

Thanks ladies. Feel free to be as tmi as you like! Grin

have tried and tried to use mine, but i always get thrush. I also find it makes my period pain worse.

i wish it wasn't like this tho, i have mates who find it great.

SnapSnafu · 11/02/2012 21:29

Coconutty - I know, but it was well sterilised, and I wasn't the one to have to use it after someone else. Was actually a "Keeper" - like a mooncup but made of gum rubber rather than silicone. Offered it on another forum I used, if anyone wanted to try, and had 2 people wanting it. They're expensive so if you can get over the ick factor... can't say that the speculums that have been rammed up my fanjo for smears have been brand new either....

Took me a few months to get used to mine but now I love it.

PacificDogwood · 11/02/2012 21:46

Would a person who find tampons uncomfortable get on with a mooncup, I wonder??
I love the concept, but found that since giving birth even a tampon is uncomfortable and feels like it is going to 'fall out' Blush...
Any experiences?
Great thread - thanks for starting it, OP.
And thanks for sharing, everybody Smile.

I second Snap, I love mine, but it's messy for the first couple of days when I'm heavy. It makes no difference to my cramps either - some periods they're horrific, sometimes I don't get any. I don't understand how a moon cup would make any difference to cramps? It sounds like one of those evangelical claims like I heard from a breast feeding counsellor once - that bf could prevent teenage acne - Hmm

MuffinTheMilf · 11/02/2012 21:48

I find it much more comfortable than a tampon - it's bigger so doesn't feel it's going to fall out - in fact towards the end of my period when I'm light I can easily forget I even have it in.

SarahLundsredJumper · 11/02/2012 21:52

Muffin Its because tampons and towels can have super absorbent materials in them that draw the flow - think of ink and blotting paper.
Have had my mooncup for several years and would never go back.

DharmaLovesDraco · 11/02/2012 21:53

Took me ages to get used to mine, I would leak all the time but once I got the positioning sorted I was fine. I find I need to wear mine quite far up (though everyone else seems to think not) to ensure no leakage.

I have also found with a mooncup I don't get thrush

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2012 21:54

It sits much lower than a tampon PacificDogwood so may be better.

I find with tampons that as soon as I put it in my cramps increase so I can see how a mooncup makes a difference there MuffintheMilf. But not compared to using nothing I agree.

MuffinTheMilf · 11/02/2012 21:55

Thanks Sarah - like I say I can still get really bad cramps. But it's about 7 years since I used tampons so I don't know if they'd be even worse if I still used them - no intention of finding out, much prefer my mooncup!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2012 21:56

Agree with DharmalovesDraco about not getting thrush. It doesn't affect the balance of your vagina like tampons do as its not sucking anything out!

MosEisley · 11/02/2012 21:58

Brilliant product, I would never go back.

I don't have any 'falling out' feeling after 3 SVDs.

MmeLindor. · 11/02/2012 21:58

I love mine.

Put some tissues down the loo and the blood does not pool at the bottom and you only need to flush once.

I do have less cramps and hardly notice that I have my period now.

Snowbeetle · 12/02/2012 09:33

Thanks everyone for your tips and frank honesty! If I don't see any of your names on mn again I will understand you have all name changed to protect your modesty! Wink

I feel like I have a really good idea what to expect from using a mooncup now. Course any funny stories anyone would like to share will still provide a good laugh be very useful. Grin
