My wife and i are expecting an arrival in late Jan and are starting our shopping now.
Any advice on cots. Also, do we really need a moses basket or crib to start with?
Thanks

the pram idea is cool - except for the fact that it is 92 stairs up to our front door. Thus the pram and the travel seat stay safely downstairs - it's all I can manage to get him up, let alone anything else. I must admit - the cardboard box idea sounds the thing - hee, hee. I shall go and help myself to one of sainsbury's finest. Once I've finished with the sticky back plastic and double sided sticky tape he wont be able to tell the difference.

LOL, Manna - maybe you could get Mumsnet to post a photo of your creation!

Enid, I was going to suggest that - apparently dh spent quite a few months in one when he was tiny!

Manna, you say your ds doesn't yet like the travel cot - could it be because they are a bit on the hard side? Our ds never slept well in ours when we went away, until we put the duvet from the cot into it, on top of the base, with a fitted sheet over it, and he slept beautifully as it was much more comfy for him.

It could be the hardness of the base, although I did put him down on his lambskin first, which he always sleeps on. Personally, I think he was having 'abandonment issues' (cheesy American accent ) because the cot felt so big and empty and was on the floor. His normal cot seems cosier, and is on the highest setting so he's further from the floor. The thing that attracts me about the cardboard box idea is that when I go to the country for Easter, I can just pick up another one at the local supermarket and start again! No transport problems, no fuss...... perfect!

Manna, cardboard boxes seem perfectly acceptable to my cats, so I'm sure your DS would love one, as well.
