Following my other thread.

If I decide to replace my broken washer dryer, I'll buy seperate machines.
What combination? Is it worth paying for Bosch or Seimens? Do you have models that stack?

any recommendations please?

my mum (and several other people i know) swear by bosch.
the man in the shop when my mum got her dishwasher said that you may pay more for a bosch, or get less features, but you're paying for a decent machine that is efficient and quiet.

they're a good make

Miele, expensive but worth every penny.

Gillian76 · 23/01/2006 10:28

Have had an Indesit for 7 years and it's been great thus far. Had a Servis and it was awful (was a washer/dryer so might have been part of it)

miele are the best - have started a savings plan for them when our current ones expire

Miele. Expensive upfront, but cheap in the long run cos they last for ever. My mum's Miele is 30 years old and still going strong. I've had mine for 7 years, and my aunt had it for 10 years before that. Never gone wrong.

Ordinary machines are only designed to last for 7 years, which is a pretty accurate estimate of their lifespan, IME.

beep · 23/01/2006 11:18

Easy · 23/01/2006 11:26

Blimey, some of the Mieles are nearly £1500 !!!

Can't afford that!

Miele washer - they last forever. Just bought a Bosch vented dryer after reading Which? report.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 23/01/2006 11:55

Easy

£1 k does it make your breakfast and remind you of your aged aunts birthdays ??

Ours was about £500.

frogs · 23/01/2006 11:58

You don't need the fancy Miele ones, Easy. Get the bottom of the range one . £499 seems more than reasonable for a washing machine that'll last you into retirement. You don't need the extra fancy features on the top model ones -- you don't need it to light up or talk to you, it just needs to wash clothes. And that's what they do.

I bought Hoover machines twice because I didn't believe my extended family's collective wisdom on the subject of Miele. And had to replace them twice in ten years, because they became too expensive to fix. I was wrong, my Mum, aunties and grandma were right.

Truly, you won't regret it.

It won't last 30 years, though, Cod.

Don't know about dryers, but the washing machines are def. worth it.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 23/01/2006 12:07

With regard to folding Cod, I thought that was what DH 's are for. lol

I just got a new Bosch for £240 from Comet. It's rated A for washing, A+ for energy efficiency and B for spinning, and takes a 6kg load. If it lasts 8 years (my last one has) that's just over 50p a week - if it conks out then I will get another nice new even more energy-efficient one.

anchovies · 23/01/2006 12:19

I got this bosch washer and this tumble dryer last week. Free delivery and boots points plus the prices were good. Very pleased with them both however I too swapped from a washer dryer so I think I would have been pleased with anything!

Janh · 23/01/2006 12:22

That's the one I've got, anchovies

Easy · 26/01/2006 16:59

Bught a Seimens washer, and a tumble dryer, recommended by my neighbour.

Paid £750 for the two. Seems like a lot of money, but just testing the washer now, and it's virtually silent.
