Does anyone have an Audi A6 Saloon?

We are having extreme trouble fitting 3 carseats into our A6 - does anyone have any ideas how we can get round this?

We currently have two Maxi Cosi Rodi XPs in the car for dd1(5) and dd2(3), but with no3 due any time now we also need to fit in the Cabrio, and it just won't go with the other 2 there. We bought a booster cushion for dd1 which is slimmer than the booster cushion from the XP but even with that we still can't fit the other seats in properly because of the shape of the back seat.

Does anyone know if there are any cushion type things we can safely use to "even out" the back seat and raise the carseats so we can move them over a bit and therefore fit all 3 kids in the back? (The back seat is "shaped" at each end - curved upwards which makes that part of the seat unuseable with a carseat as it wouldn't sit straight.) [We can switch the airbag off in the front passenger seat so we can get round short journeys that way but obviously this is not ideal.] Any ideas/suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!

I have an A6 and can get a maxi cosi rodi and a maxi cosi priori in. When I have an extra child I have a MPs booster which just fits in the middle.Have to omit though it is a tight squeeze but I didn't every intend to use all 3 in the back when I first bought it - it was just a spare booster to keep in the boot if DD went into a friends mums car or I had an extra one to pick up, then I usually just turn the airbag off and put them in the front with it. I have seen slimmer booster cushions but how comfortable they are for regular use I'm not sure.

no - i wish - have a crappy old mondeo!

or should that be mundano?

vickiyumyum · 22/01/2006 09:19

LOL at the mundano, we are looking for anew car and one of dh's suggestions was an a6 estate, as he reckons we could fit three car seats into the back, looks like we will have to look again though.

Not really anyhelp at all, but have you thought of using different boosters all together? as the rodis are quite wide and therefore take up more room, or isofix seats so that you don't have the buckiling in issue for the 2 youngest and only need to be able to squeexe your hand in to fasten up the eldest child?

interesting

will tell dh who is insisting on something like this even though I have told him that it will be useless with three car seats (currently have booster, maxi priori, will have britax rock a tot from April)

Don't think the A6 estate is really any wider than the saloon. It's the actual shape of the back seat that's the problem - if it were a bench-type seat, as opposed to shaped, I think it would be fine.

We've actually got a choice of 3 different carseats for dd1 - the Rodi XP, a Britax and a booster cushion. I've tried using combinations of all the booster seats/cushions we've got but it's either not a chance or a very tight squeeze.
DD2's in the XP because she's too big for the 3-point harness type seats now, so I think that rules out the isofix system?

Isn't it funny how it's all the dh's insisting on the Audis - I told dh we should get a people carrier, but he was adamant we would all fit in! (Have to say I did rather enjoy the "told you so" part that came after he tried to fit the seats into the car, but now it's bugging me!) The only way you're going to know if you all fit in is if you pitch up at the garage/showroom and try to fit all the carseats in yourself - I can imagine that would go down well with the salesman!

If anyone knows of any "slimline" booster seats or cushions we could try, please let me know!

we are just about to do this (argue over cars) as dh has gaily decided we are getting a bmw 5 series estate even though it looks miles too narrow to get three seats in easily - bearing in mind the booster has to be easy to do and undo by dd1. Grrrr.

Enid · 23/01/2006 09:27

the bmw also has that 'shaped' back seat kando

kando · 23/01/2006 09:48

Seriously Enid, you need to get down to the showroom and try the seats in the back - I am so mad that we didn't even think to do this because the car "looked" big enough. It's a heck of a lot of money to spend out only to discover you can't fit the kids in the back - and probably all for the sake of our DH's macho pride at having a swanky car! Much as I love our Audi, I keep looking longingly at the Chrysler Grand Voyager we were going to buy ... !

Good luck!!
