Can't think what to get, she wants every advert she sees, But I know they wouldn't maitain her interest. Trouble is, have got a dressing table, that lights up, for dd2 (2nd hand for a tenner). And although it wasn't that costly in comparison to new. It'll look BIG when wrapped to dd1. So I'd like to get her something reasonable, but not sure what.

She loves anything arty, my parents are getting her a kids potters wheel, so that's out of the picture. Any suggestions?

The only thing that springs to mind which is physically big and also arty is something like this , but she may well have all the same kinds of things that are inside it already. I'll keep thinking though

I'm in the same boat Batey so shall be watching this with interest. Am already thinking of a child-size accoustic guitar (she likes 'writing' songs). a dance mat (but absolutely clueless about what does what), a globe, a night sky globe for her room - will ask other people to get some of these. But it's a struggle, she doesn't need anything and isn't very demanding at all.

Has she got a cd player? Pogo stick? (Actually might get that for mine!) Camera?

tamum - got that for my daughter a few years ago - very good for shoving 'art' into but, tbh, could get similar (nicer even?) drawers and better art and crafty stuff to go in it for same/cheaper price

tamum · 16/11/2003 16:14

Oh I agree Tinker; I was just trying to think of something that was big, but you could do a DIY version, certainly.

Tinker · 16/11/2003 16:18

No, wasn't criticising tamum! Think's it's a good suggestion - looks big.

tamum · 16/11/2003 16:24

Tinker, it reminds me of a "Not The Nine O'Clock News" sketch from years ago with people in an art gallery saying "oh, I don't think much of that one at all, it's awfully small isn't it?" "oh, now that's a good one, isn't it, it's REALLY big"

It's so hard with children when you know they're judgment of presents and fairness depends so much on size rather than value!

Tinker · 16/11/2003 16:27

Exactly tamum - put a cheap pressie in HUGE box

batey · 16/11/2003 17:40

Camera and a huge box might be an idea!!!

What she'd love is one of those gross Barbie heads you plaster makeup on. But I know in 5mins the make up would be on both dds. Both have sensitive skin, that would flare up and then take ages to settle, blah, blah. Or should that be Bah Humbug !!

batey you can get big barbie heads that you just do the hair of, and not the makeup - my 5.5yr old dd has one and loves it! it is gross though, I hate it.

whymummy · 16/11/2003 19:02

batey have a look here www.gltc.co.uk they have great things there, look for the arts and take a look at the "super art table"

batey · 16/11/2003 20:39

Pph, where did you get your dds Barbie head from??

Whymummy, good idea but a bit beyond my budget, thanks anyway.

Batey, this is probably not PPH's dd's one, but might be suitable. I realise they're saying it's out of stock, but it must be available somewhere. It has the bonus of make-up but as it's done with water it would presumably not work on children!
