I looked at the Galaxy (as I did the extended test last year Blush) but couldn't get a diesel at the price I wanted in the time I needed it.
The VW does feel far more solid - I also ADORE the sliding back doors, absolutely brilliant. It feels less 'gadgety'.

I have a Mk1 Galaxy which is essentially the same as a Sharan and also an Alhambra. Made to same design with same diesel engine in Galaxy and Sharan (not Alhambra). Mine has done 226,000 miles and is still mostly going strong (bust turbo aside, but that was my fault really).

Depends what age you're getting but if it's fairly new I'd personally I'd go for an Alhambra as the insurance is cheaper. Galaxy is cheap too but the new models aren't as well built as the originals (made by Ford not VW).

slidey doors are THE dogs bollocks Grin seriously our citreon c8 has them and i wont go back to a car without them!

when we looked for our last car we looked at the galaxy as well as the sharan and we found they all looked a lot more 'used' than the sharans the interiors didnt seem to wear as well at all. we are in norwich and ended up going to essex when we got our sharan, we did the same to get our c8, bit of a pita to travel but worth it as we got a good deal.

like i said we were perfectly happy with our sharan and only changed really as we were having no 5 so needed all 3 point seat belts and ours was an older model that didnt have one in the middle.

Love my sliding doors!

I'm suprised more cars don't have sliding doors. It seems more standard in the states for people carriers. We had a Mazda 5 and loved the sliding doors so when we needed a bigger car we were immediately attracted to the Sharan. I don't think the galaxy and Sharan are the same anymore. The old ones certainly were but the new Sharan is a bit longer and wider than the old model. Not sure if galaxy has also changed over.
