Anyone got these and if so what do you think of them? Would you recommend.
TIA

We got them for sittingroom after window was bricked and TV nicked. Not to keep the burglars out (they wouldn't) but to cut down visibility without reducing light. I like the shutters a whole heap better than nets, but bet they're a PITA to clean (am both skanky and bone idle so haven't bothered).
You can (as we did) order MDF ones, painted, much cheaper.

We inherited some in our bedroom but we still have curtains there. We do like them so ordered them for other rooms with smaller windown space. They look nice and let in or keep out a LOT of light. DD has a three quarter set in her bedroom with a blackout blind on top that never gets let down as the wooden blinds keep out so much light. I've never cleaned them either

We have them in our main bathroom and I love them Thoroughly recommend them

dizzydo · 19/01/2006 19:40

Thanks for the responses. Do you have anything else with them, i.e. curtains at the side and if not do you find that the room is quite drafty in winter. We live in an old house and there are always draughts coming from the window.

I was going to ask about cleaning too

Also any recommendations for fitters. I am in London.

We have a combo. 3/4 shutters and full-on curtains in our bedroom (inherited). 3/4 shutters in DD's room with black-out roller blind above that never gets let down. 3/4 shutters only on bathroom window whcih is very big and DH reckons someone shouted "I can see you" once before the shutters I think we used the American Shutter company, or something like that, we're in London too. There's usually ads in the back of House & Garden etc.

bakedpotato · 19/01/2006 19:48

Whereabouts in London dizzydo?
They certainly don't stop the draught. We have curtains but by day get cold neck.
Does anyone clean shutters, I wonder?
They should be called 'slutters'

dizzydo · 19/01/2006 19:48

Thanks Davros. Do you have to keep them in good order, i.e. do they need regular painting and what about warping etc. I know I sound paranoid but I dont want to go to the expense of getting them fitted and then find there more trouble than they're worth. I agree with you that they do look lovely especially when you can see them from the road. Very stylish

I asked bcs would recommend a company in N London, but no good for you

Davros · 19/01/2006 19:59

I don't think it matters that much if they're very local to you, I'm sure ours weren't but work all over London. The inherited ones in our bedroom are white and have been cleaned (but not by me) and I think look more "tired" than the natural wood/stained/varnished ones which always look fine. No warping and we've had the first ones for at least 12 years and I don't know how long before we moved here.

meggmoo · 19/01/2006 20:13

love, love, love them and am going to have them in my next house. I love the painted ones.

dizzydo · 19/01/2006 21:28

baked potato how does the actual fitting go? Do they come and measure up and then go away and bring them back painted and ready for fixing. Also would like their name please as will get a few quotes and north london is not that far from south really.

Thanks for all your input, everybody so far who has them seems to love them. Think I will go for it.

I can't remember the fitting so it must have been OK. I do remember that they bring them ready to go in.
