Anyone got a Phil&Ted's double buggy?

I was just looking at these buggies on their website as I have a 14 month old dd and another due in September. I need a good buggy as I get frustrated if I can't get out and about easily and some of them look very difficult to access buildings etc. This on looks good (need to start saving now though!) I have a few questions though that weren't answered on the website and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice. Firstly, is there anywhere to put shopping bags and nappy change bag etc? Also, does the child sitting on the part that pulls down get frustrated because he can't see anything except the back of the pushchair? Does the pram part for the newborn baby come with the buggy in the price? Sorry to be dim, welcome any help. thanks

i've got one and i love it. to answer your questions, yes there is a basket but when you have the part for the newborn down it is very difficult to access (although it is possible to slip a hand in. When the 2 seats (ie 2 toddlers) then the bag becomes the lower child's footwell. TBH i still used the basket as her legs weren't long enough to need so much room and it's only recently (She's 14months) that i've had to leave it clear for her.

She loved sitting in the back, and people are always surprised so she got lots of smiles etc.

Not quite sure what you mean about the pram part... The seat of the single buggy basically folds down to create the newborn pram bit, but phil and ted's do sell a cocoon that fits snuggly inside that space so baby is warm and cosy. We had one and I loved it as i could take her out without waking, but s nice warm blanket put down qould do the job fine.

Another absolutely brilliant thing i found with it was that DS got older he wanted to sit in it less, but sometimes had to (Like after he's run off etc!). I used to put the spare seat on the top part (like for when using with a newborn) but fold the other seat up underneath. This meant there was only one seat but if the other became necessary you could just whip the seat off and convert it to a 2 seater in seconds. I realise that probably makes little sense unless you have one to play with, but it is excellent in my opinion!

Thanks Tweetyfish that is really helpful. You did answer my question about the newborn part. I wasn't sure if it was a seperate add-on but you said it just folds down which is great. It sounsds good but just a bit concerned about lack of storage. I tend to load up the pushchair with bags at the mo.

i know what you mean... Naother thing that i used to do re the storage... The buddy comes with a wrist restraint on the handle bars, which has poppers which close to make a loop. I found that i could but the bag handles in this loop and it would hlod them no problems. I also used to load up the hood with little bits!

I've just bought a quinny zapp which has absolutlely no storage and it is very annoying! But it's so small and lovely that i love it anyway!

Curlygirl - I have just got one before Xmas - dd1 is nearly 16 months and dd2 is due in 12 days! The toddler seat goes at the front and the back - so if the baby wants to sit up it can go in the toddler seat in the back setting - but really should as near to 6 months as possible.

Re storage, you can buy P&T panniers to go on the sides - I have bought some - not sure how much I would use them when going around town etc as would make the buggy quite wide but would use in a non-city environment IYSWIM. Though actually, the P&T is quite narrow - narrower than my Jane Powertrack - so with panniers the P&T probably wouldn't be too wide.

I have got most of the accessories to last me as I got a good deal - so please feel free to ask other questions! I just wish I knew about this before I got pregnant with dd1?

thanks Hotmama. I also wish I had bought one of these originally. This will be my third buggy.

Panniers don't make it too wide - still much thinner than a side-by-side double, getting through 99% of doors easily. We have a full changing kit in one and the storm cover in the other - but they do fit 6 bottles of wine each.

Bear - now that is the kind of information that should be shared on Mumsnet!

Anyone had any problems with them though.
Ive been looking at them for my DD and new arrival. Just cant make up my mind

misdee · 17/01/2006 20:42

my dd3 did try and put her fingers through the wheels. dd2 legs are very long (large 3yr old) and if she rpessed her foor down hard enough she could make the front wheel jam up, good braking system really lol.

I have oohed and aahed about an e3 for 9 months having looked at it and listened to all the comments on mumsnet I decided to go for a twin aria instead. I think the e3 would be fab for a newborn and a toddler but didn't like it so much once the double seat is in use, baby touching wheels etc. Also I use the car a lot and couldn't really justify the expense. Plus if I don't like the twin aria I can always persuade DP we need another buggy (as I've been so good and saved loads on not buying an e3 ) the twin arai looks good so far (haven't used it yet DD2 refusing to come out) but it fits through our living room door and car boot and is really lightweight.

My advice is to go and have a look at a few and see what you like the look of.

Hi, I have a 22m age gap, so I think similar to yours.

  1. I find panniers make ir too wide but you can hang a long strapped bag over the handlebars, tie bags to all parts of it, etc.

  2. Its great in newborn+toddler comfiguration.

I personally dislike the 2 toddlers configuration as it puts kids at exhaust fume height+ my ds does like to play with the wheels.

  1. Actally, ds didn't mind not having a front facing view. But his head was pretty close to dd's seat.

I would buy it again just for those 1st 6 months, however, especially as the resale value is so good. Now we are using a buggyboard+ds' old pushchair and that is fine.

Its also a very nice pushchair in singles configuaration.
