Do these classics for free on the Kindle often contain spelling mistakes?

Quite a few of the reviews go on about how wonderful the books are, but then mention some spelling mistakes and errant symbols creeping into the text.

Classics seem to be copied out by 'volunteers'. Is this a big problem?

Presumably they are using an out-of-copyright edition from 1910, or something?

PS. Can anyone tell me how to increase/reduce text size?

Yes, it is a big problem

Punctuation, spelling, transposed words.

Better to buy the books on Kindle than rely on the freebies.

It happens, the "self published" freebies more I feel than the classics. Try the freebie, buy the 69p edition if there is enough trouble to bother you but check the reviews 1st as often they are the same!

I am finding lots of kindle books have errors even the non free ones - drives me potty!

Use the button that you buy from kindle store with and scroll down to 'change font size.'

I complained about the spelling on a paid for Kindle book - one of the Cazalet Chronicles, so a mainstream fiction book in copyright - and a new version was sent to me a few weeks later (hopefully with improved spelling, but as I had read it by then, I haven't checked that). One particularly annoying misspelling was the name of one of the main characters.
