Am debating whether to buy one of these playpen things, it cost £70 though to want to know if anyone else has one and are they useful. I like the idea of it separating so you can cordon part of the room off.

I have one. TBH I haven't used it that much really. Am planning to use as fire guard if I ever get fire sorted out. Also may get the wendy house thing that goes over the top for dd for xmas (though that is another £40 )

Yes, I saw the Wendy House thing as well, mmmmmm. dd isn't moving yet but I want to have planning in place to keep my cd's out of sticky mits.

My dd isn't interested in our CDs and she's walking around. I would wait and see if it's a problem before forking out £70!

Good idea. BUT have £10 voucher for Jojomamanbebe which runs out (or may have already done) soon.

Buy a nice winter fleece or something then divvy! I bought dd one of their fleeces and bootleg fleece trouser sets and it is gorgeous and washes brilliantly.

kiddicare.com are selling for £63 btw

We were lent one and DS refused to sit in it after he was about 7 months. We now use it as a very big and expensive fire guard....think it might be most useful if you sit in it with glass of wine and TV remote control and let DS/DD have the run of the house

oliveoil · 11/11/2003 12:45

CD - oooo u callin divvy?????

Dickers - sounds good!

We have a fairly open-plan house and an odd-shaped fireplace that no other guard will fit (and have lots of real fires in it). To start with we used the Babyden to cordon off the fireplace and the exit from living room to dining area / rest of house - so the living room was one big playpen which was great. Now dd is older, it stops her getting at the fire, and a small section at the end of the room that contains all the stuff that we move out in the evening when people are round - like floor-standing candlesticks. Its nice having a little child-free zone to dump things in!

Its great if you need a funny-shaped gate / guard / little wall. Quite easy to change its shape, so you can change your childproofing as dd grows. Haven't ever used it as a playpen but may buy the tent next birthday.

Would agree that is worth waiting to see what your dd's mitts find before turning your house into Fort Knox. Some kids seem not to be interested (or unstack the cds twice and then don't bother) and others are into everything all the time. My dd ignores most of my stuff now - but attacks friend's cds at their houses

Zerub - my friend uses it to separate her children so the younger one doesn't eat the lego etc and the older one can paint in peace. Think I will think about it.

Dickers - I heard of someone who sits and bfs the baby in the playpen, while toddler rampages around the room!

Oh another use for the BabyDen - dd loves the gate. Will play with it for at least 20 minutes. Can't open it by herself though - just likes pushing it to, opening it, going through, coming out ... Slightly expensive toy though

gingernut · 11/11/2003 12:55

Oliveoil, have a look here and here . HTH!

oliveoil · 11/11/2003 12:59

Thank you gingernut! I never think to search for previous posts and bore everyone with a sense of dejavu when I create my own

Oliveoil, I've got one and it's been a godsend! DH bought it when dd2 was tiny (now 10months and on the move), as dd1 was rampaging around the room all the time. We wanted somewhere safe to put dd2 to keep her out of harm's way and it's worked out brilliantly. Although I have to say it is very expensive and a large travel cot would probably do just as well, both dds seem to like it. DH also bought the wendyhouse thingy that goes over the top of it, but we've only used it a couple of times.

I loved ours. We used it to cordon off the extension at the end of our dining room to contain all the toys, I used it to cordon of the kitchen in our new house when using the diner bit for crafts with a bunch of pre-schoolers and I use the gate plus 2 bits as a stairgate when smaller children come visiting as I can fasten it without ruining anything. The padded base was great for sitting small babies on when on our patio too. However, I have never used it as a play pen!!
