For anyone thinking of buying a Kindle - Amazon Support are Great

Take a look at this post on the Amazon Kindle forum. A users Kindle (purchased in the US) broke this morning. After a bit of discussion with Amazon UK and Amazon US, a replacement Kindle is being dispatched to the customer.

Personally my Kindle has been going strongly for 14 months, long may it go on. One of the benefits of a Closed Loop system (think that's what it's known as when the supplier of the hardware also supplies the software) is that customer support is great.

H'mm. Wish I could agree. The kindle I bought for my husband in September 2010 broke a coupke of weeks ago - the screen just froze, which I know has happened to many other people. It has not been abused or sat on, and has always worn a Kindle cover supplied by Amazon so has been well protected. It is 4 months out of the warranty period. They want £50 to send out a replacement, which is a very large proportion of the buy new price.

I know that many, many people have had screen problems. I don't regard 16m as a very good life span for something I paid £170 for.

I can still read my Kindle books on my iPhone or iPad, but I'm going to look into other e-readers before I spend £50 on something which seems to have a design problem and which may freeze again very quickly.

So, which other e-reader???? Apple do e-books, don't they?
