my wonderful amazing parents have just told me they are getting us a new car for Christmas! (by new they mean getting it in used car auction but will be under 3years old) this is amazing awesome news and am blown away by the generosity.

I'm due #2 in a few weeks (have almost 2yo already) and was wondering how was going to fit everyone in My corsa if we went away (travelcot, double buggy etc)

I dont want a massive long estate as parking is bit of issue in this street but something bigger with better boot space.

No idea about cars- any recommendations?

We've got a citroen c4 picasso (also diesel) and have three kids in car seats in the back. Very, very few cars we looked at combined three fitting into the back, decent bootspace and economical to drive, but this did, and very happy with it. :)

Nice parents! :)

We've got friends who have a Nissan qashqai and love it. Other friends have the ford (can't remember what it's called but it sits 7 with all the seats up or 5 with space for boot).

Wow v generous parents!Smile

In a similar but slightly more compact vein, Vauxhall Meriva. Spacious, comfy, small and parkable, diesel versions are cheap to run, and surprisingly fun to drive.

Happy Christmas! :)

I have a Vectra, hated it at first but it has a massive boot and is nice and roomy inside. Depends if you intend to have dc3 I guess. I don't so don't need 3 in the back although 3 high back boosters would fit I should think.

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/12/2011 12:46

If you want to stick to something smaller and easier to park, the Honda Jazz has loads of storage space. The boot is pretty big for its size, and the back seats have space underneath with plenty of room for travel cot etc. Lots more room than the Corsa we used to have.

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/12/2011 12:47

Make sure it's the 5 door version though!

I loathe my MPV. I hate sitting so high up, the lack of good visibility out the back, the very high running costs, and the turning radius measured in counties. The difficulty in parking it in an ordinary space, I could go on and on...

If I still had only DC I'd go for a wide estate. VW or Audi good.

lljkk · 24/12/2011 13:01

urk, only three dc, even.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/12/2011 13:08

Nissan Note
Ford Fusion

Both mini estate/MPVs so bigger than Corsa but not full on estate size. So easy to park but good boot size.

Corolla verso there's an 08 one up for auction I know that for a fact coz it's ours and we'v got a new focus estate now not half so good

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 24/12/2011 13:40

We have a Corolla Verso which is great for when we visit relatives in Europe, go to the allotment or take the dog out but it's turning circle is bad and is like driving a tank. Our KA died recently and has been replaced with a Honda Jazz which is fab and Verso becoming rapidly redundant.

rootietootie · 24/12/2011 14:35

we got a honda crv last year when i was preggers. Lots of space, huge boot (we keep our pram in it permanently and it only takes up about a third of it), 4wd, but its not so bulky and high us as other 4x4s. TBF we had a peugeot 206cc before so really anything would have been an improvement size wise!

south345 · 24/12/2011 14:37

I love my galaxy, boot space even with all seats up, easy to park as front and back sensors and not heavy at all. Dp has a Mazda 6 and the boot is huge!

vicarlady · 24/12/2011 14:45

Another recommendation for a Nissan Note. Good boot space, adjustable rear seat, easy access, reasonably economical etc. having said that I often drive my father's Kia Venga, which is a similar size, and that is good too.

Wow I have a lot of googling to do then. Not sure am ready to make jump into a proper people carrier but then something for a growing family is good. H is now adamant no #3. Me I can't shake feeling that this isn't my last pregnancy. So I reckon we will but maybe with a much bigger gap.

I like fuel efficiency lots of mpg and am defo not a swanky car person so driving a tank scares me a bit!

Am so excited now! My parents are incredible!
