i ordered some ants last week for my daughter's ant "kit"-can't remember exactly what it's called-.Do i have to open it straightaway or do they live in this packaging for a few days? was hoping that my daughter could open it when she gets home-partially because i've gone all squeamish for some reason...!

Personally I can't help but I would leave them in there for your daughter to retreive! lol

I think you are supposed to open them asap. When is your daughter ome. And why on earth did you want ANTS?! Eeeww!

i got her an ant "observatory" for christmas as she's always been fascinated by anything in the ground and thought they were a bit nicer than worms!!!ants have never bothered me until this morning....i've suddenly gone itchy all over and can't bring myself to open the jiffy bag!

Cutekids can I ask where you got it from? ds is 7 in June and would love something like that, although I'm not too sure about ants! They give be the Heebies!

Kelly1978 · 10/01/2006 10:37

there is a bit of info here I really really hate ants, they totally give me the creeps. No idea why, I don't mind spiders or anythign else.

KT2, sorry didn't get back to you b4 on this. Only just gone back to thread. I bought the kit in ToysRUs but you have to buy the ants seperately-mail order-for £4 extra.
By the way, I plucked up courage to open the bag yesterday and they were in a plastic container that eventually hooks up to the "observatory"-once you've got your sand and soil in etc!.There were about 50 of them and I could not entice them into the sand part for love nor money! However, over night they must have all taken the chance and marched in cos this morning there were none left in the container at all and a few of them were "building" etc. Quite fascinating really! My kids 5,6,7 were all mesmorised by them!

Thanks Cutekids, it does really sound interesting, and ds would be mesmorised with it too, well that sounds as if I have his Birthday sorted out!

Kelly1978 · 13/01/2006 10:10

I think my kids would love that. I'd be too scared of them escaping tho!

cutekids · 13/01/2006 10:54

to be honest, i don't think they would escape...i noticed our ants were a little "shy" whilst we were all peering in at them and kept sticking to each other. I actually thought they were dead but when I tapped their container- probably sounded like a thunderstorm to them-they all started running around. However,as I said, they must have been very frightened at first but once we'd gone to bed they all moved in to the tank. (I actually dropped the thing at one point...yes, i squealed a bit...! but they just stayed stuck together.)

very strange. I wish they would stick together when they infest the hosue. Be far easier to get rid of! Good luck with them anyway.

I just have to say I think this wins the prize for the best thread title - made me chuckle anyway (although I accept that I am a little bit strange)
