Good Sofa Shops

We bought 2 sofas 5 years ago and they are falling apart, they were cheap at the time and are uncomfortable and rubbish. We want to buy a very long 4 seater leather sofa now and although we cant afford a lot we do want a decent one that wont break in a couple of years.

Where is good to buy that kind of thing?

Are DFS any good or are they too cheaply made?

Any ideas?

can tell u to def avoid sofa workshop we had nothing but trouble from them.

friend used DFS for leather wasn't too bad, she had to chase a bit for a del. date but was there around the time they said.

Personally, I wouldn't touch DFS with a barge pole. They make as cheaply as possible and then load the sale price to be able to offer the interest free terms. Plus they have that annoying Linda Barker woman advertising for them. However, we may be after a new sofa soon, so will watch this thread with interest.

Munz, what trouble did you have with sofa workshop (thats the only one I had been recommended) were they slow or just plain rubbish?

Sofa Workshop fine for us (they are just MFI though). BUT you have to pay about £50 for delivery - arrange your own man and a van if you can.

I've had two suites from Reids, the first one is now 10 years old and still with us and the second one is about a year old, been very happy with both of them. The latest one is brown leather and was about £1,300 (maybe slightly less) for a two seater and a three seater, with three years' interest free credit.

The quality from Sofa Workshop is very good, however I think that their delivery can be a bit hit and miss. I certainly think they have the nicest designs too.

They aren't the same as MFI they are a completely different company and just use MFI as an outlet.

If you're going for a traditional look try Chesterfields Direct - great service but 4-week lead time as they build them to order. Very good value though.

HM - well where to start, firstly they came early - fab we thought, until DH unloaded the chairs, they went off, and DH realise we had two completely different chairs - totally different leather and suites/styles. so DH rang - literally minutes after they lef tthe house and he was told tough, they've left your area - the suite fair enough we got in the sale (was 80% off from MFI) but it still cost us £1200 so we expected better service, anyhow I then got on the phone, and was told the same, DH at this point got v angry and told them in no uncertian terms that we had someone elses chair they had ours and we wanted our one. anyhow he was promised a call back - never came, we used both chairs - as we literally had no furniture in the house, got a call about a week later - oh so sorry u'll have to wait another 6 weeks for the chair to come. anyhow after about 10 more calls from us chasing etc and sorting it out we finally got our chair and were happy. then about 3 months later we got a letter - your chair will be delivered on x a date (the replacement chair) on the same day I got the same letter - we will be collecting your sofa on x a date - WTF!!!! anyhow yet another call and finally it was sorted out. I was v v unimpressed by the customer services there.

on the plus side the sofa is of a v high quality, can't complain about the actual product but the company in general was shocking. (althou we ordered with a load of other stuff from MFI and had nothing but trouble with the other stuff as well) - part orders unhelpful delivery guys etc.. the only good thing was the price tag, it was 50% off and we went on a w/e with no VAT (don't ask me how/why but they gave us the vat off twice hence the 80% off we got) hopefully we won't need to buy another one for a good 10 years or so. we paid cash when we ordered as well, so they couldn't argue the credit point.

(didn't pay extra for delivery either)

We bought ours from Sofa Workshop, not through MFI store, one of their own in Glasgow. Mega problems with delivery but the sofa's themselves are very nice & I think will last really well, had them for 2 years now, and have had lots of compliments on them.
We did get a free footstool which cost £300 as compensation but we had a 4 month delay & then the delivery guys harassed me to come at 7 in the morning because it was a Friday the week before Xmas & they obviously wanted to start & finish early. DH was on night shift so I agreed they could come at 8 but they'd have to remove old suite & put in garage for me. They turned up at 7.45 & I made them wait in van for 15 minutes whilst I got DD (2 at the time) sorted . They were very nice though & took trouble to be careful as I was giving old suite to friends & it was still in nice condition just not what we wanted anymore.
Very long story short, this company do some of the same stuff much cheaper. Ours is the Siena & we paid just under £2k in the sale for the 3,2 & chair shown there. I think delivery is included in their prices. I contacted them because we were thinking of getting another chair when we move house & it's about half the price of Sofa Workshop & they were very helpful although I haven't bought from them yet. They do have some stores so you could maybe visit & see what you thought if you fancied any.
Have heard so many bad stories about DFS & was very disappointed when I visited their showroom so we avoided them.
