Wood Burning Stoves.....any one from scandanavia?

katymac · 09/01/2006 19:57

After massive disappointment last year when I found I couldn't have the most gorgeous stove for my central heating

So I'm on the look out for new stove manufacturers and I thought that Scandanavian countries might use these.........and I'm asking if any MN from over that way or who have ever lived thataway could recommend any makes??

TIA

I'm not from there or living there, but we have a woodburning stove in London - it's a make called stovax.
hth

ernest · 23/01/2006 13:02

they're v. popular in Germany & Switzerland too. Over here known as Kaminofen (generic term not particular make). if you type that in google you'll find loads. we have one & I love it

Enid · 23/01/2006 13:03

Clearview

the mutts nuts

Gingerbear · 23/01/2006 13:08

think clearview was the make that was too big to fit katymac?
Try googling Selfbuild websites or pick up a self build magazine - there are several makes mentioned in the ads, and there are woodburing forums for stove lovers too.

Katymac - try Dowling Stoves - they hand make them to measure. Ours was tailored specifically for the space it had to go in - they're made in Scotland so you can ring them at normal times to chat to them about your stove too!

here

They are blacksmith forged, which means they won't crack like cast iron stoves can - and if you ever do have any trouble with them, you can just take them to a blacksmith to fix, whereas a cast iron one is heading only one way when its broken - the tip!

Am I selling them well enough??

katymac · 23/01/2006 14:17

Clearview was the one that is too big

I don't like the styling of the Dowling Stoves

Stovax - don't do anything big enough (just like clearview)

Kaminofen he site aren't in english

I'll look at the self build later

Thanks everyone - I need as much help as possible

jotul are lovely stoves katymac and IIRC they have lots of little ones

also Le Belge do teeny tiny ones.

throckenholt · 23/01/2006 14:21

we have the Exe from here - have had it for at least 8 years and it seems fine.

littlemissbossy · 23/01/2006 14:22

I'm not Scandanavian... but the winters can be cold her in Yorkshire
We've got a Scandanavian stove - google Jotul - they're good/have a high heat output. We also have a Charnwood but the Jotul is loads better. HTH

katymac · 23/01/2006 14:41

Does Jotul - have a website - I'm trying to find one witha fairly large boiler

OP posts:
throckenholt · 23/01/2006 14:42

www.jotuluk.com - very nice but very expensive

katymac · 23/01/2006 16:20

Jotul - don't do boilers damn

OP posts:
Enid · 23/01/2006 16:23

franco belge

katymac · 23/01/2006 18:44

We have a Morso (but with a funny sqiggly thing over the o) Badger I think - very good and we liked the 'simple lines' of it. No fancy carvings and also matt finish. 'Tis quitw small and does the clean burning clear window thing too.

gomez · 23/01/2006 18:49

Here are some

katymac · 23/01/2006 18:52

Thanks I do like Morso - but no boiler again

OP posts:
gomez · 23/01/2006 18:54

Can you not connect a Morso to a boiler Katy? I am sure our 'wee man' said you could - but I could be making that up of course. .

katymac · 23/01/2006 18:56

I want the stove to heat the water......I don't know if I can attch one - if I can I can keep the stove I have

OP posts:
gomez · 23/01/2006 18:57

Get a 'wee man' then! Sorry not much help really.

katymac · 23/01/2006 19:00

You can run it along side your existing Gas or Oil boiler tho' - I wonder if thats what your man meant?

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 23/01/2006 19:02

Sorry katy, just saw that about Jotul - never mind I'm sure you'll find one suitable. Whereabouts in the country are you? I know a really good stove shop.

katymac · 23/01/2006 19:29

norfolk - but maybe I could ring them?

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 24/01/2006 09:17

Hi katy, they're in Ilkley, Yorkshire - doubt that they'll want to travel to Norfolk though - but they may be able to give you some advice ?

throckenholt · 24/01/2006 10:26

katymac - there is a stove place that is somewhere on the road between Fakenham and Norwich - check the yellow pages - they may be able to advise you. Also there is one at Notcutts in Norwich.
