On 3rd December I ordered a new phone from O2 online and got a PAC from O2 pay & go to keep my old number. After having the phone for just over a week DP tells me that he was going to get me a phonre for my christmas (and pay for the contract) so I arranged with O2 online to return the handset to them along with the free prducts I had received. I sent the parcel back to them on 15th December At the time of cancelling the online contract I enquired as to whether the PAC I got from Pay & go was still valid and was told that it was until 30 days after if was issued, which meant it should have been valid until 5th January.
On Saturday 17th December DP and I went Christmas shopping and got my new phone from T-Mobile, and gave them the PAC for my number to transferred to them. On the Thursday before Christmas DP called me at 5pm and asked me to call O2 for a new PAC as T-mobile has informed him that the other one was no longer valid. After spending 1 hour on the phone and being passed from pillar to post . I was told that no-one could issue a code. I called DP to tell him and he advised that I call back and speak to someone senior. He also advised that I threaten them with OFCOM. I got through to a senior person and after explaining the situaton to them, he said that he was contacting the relevant department and not getting off the phone until he got me a PAC. After about 15 minutes ha managed to get one.
On Jan 4th I received an email from them saying my online bill available to view. This listed a charge for 4th Jan-3rd Feb, as well as charges for the calls made before the cancellation. I agree that I should pay for the calls. I sent them an email asking why I was being charged for a period after I had cancelled the contract.
At 6.06am today I received an email from them saying: "You have been billed for 4 January 2006 to 03 February 2006 because your 4 January 2006 bill was generated before your account disconnection.
A termination bill will be generated soon, which will show a refund of the line rental from 06 January 2006 to 03 February 2006. Your account will be set to zero balance in the termination bill."
At 5.20pm today I received another bill from them charging me for 18 months, which is the full term of the contract. Surely as the contract was cancelled within the "cooling off" period. This charge should not be applicable.
I am going to have fun with them tomorrow.

If you got this far thank you for reading. I just needed to get it off my (rather large)chest

from what ive read, as long as you cancelled during the cooling off period then o2 should not have charged you, have they debited the money from your account?

MadameButterfly · 07/01/2006 21:18

It is not due to come out of the account until 21st. I will be calling customer services tomorrow, and I will call the bank on Monday to cancel any payments to them.

yes cancel your direct debit asap and call customer services, if they are unhelpful, ask for the complaints department and if neccassary an address to write to, threaten them with OFCOM and trading standards if it comes to it.

I called them on Monday and their explanation was that he phone was not returned within 14 days When I sai that I hasd taken it to the post office on the Thursday and that is was not my fault if it was not delivered to them the next day they caved in and have refunded the whole amount.
