Does liquid detergent work out cheaper than powder???

Given that I'm currently using the cheap stuff (60p for a small box - which lasts me about 1 1/2 weeks) would one of those huge bottles of detergent work out cheaper or not??

That's a good question! I've got one of those huge drums of Kirkland bio washing powder from Costco that lasts about 3-4 mos. at the rate we're going now - w/newborn baby.

Interested in any responses . . .

We us liquid detergent at work - and do about 5/6 (often more) loads a night - but it seems to last for ages. Just wondered if (seen as though I often put less than the 'recommended' amount of powder in) I put in slightly less than the recommended amount of liquid stuff it would work out cheaper - loathe to buy a big bottle if it's going to cost me more in the long run though.

I buy the big boxes of Persil, about £7/8 for 5kg, they last for ages.

I use the tabs, they smeel nicer but are more expensive than the powdered tablets. when jnr comes it will be back to the powdered tablets I think.

ES - is that powder and that from bookers as good as the persils/bold etc?

i find the kirkland one on par w/the asda bio washing powder in a green box, but even cheaper! i find it pretty good quality! clothes are soft enough - i don't have a drier and use vinegar w/a few drops of essential oil as a softener - and stains go away.

I used to use Persil - but too expensive - quite happy with my 60p boxes from Wilko's - but if one of those bottles (which you can get for around £2-3) would last me longer than a couple of boxes of the powder then I'll happily change

I used the liquid tabs - until I was getting the odd green gooey blob left on clothes.
Then switched to the little powder block things. Found I was getting the odd grainy patch or the odd bleach type mark on things.
Bought big box of persil powder - DH spilt a load of it in cleaning cupboard when looking for boot polish.
Now gone back to Tesco non Bio liquid. Not the most expensive or cheapest but cleans ok, doesn?t take up so much room to store and smells nice

yes will be cheaper for powder
check out unit pricing, it will show you what each one costs per 100 g or similar

powder works out cheaper for us (much cheaper when combined with soda crystals)

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 06/01/2006 18:18

thing is bit difficult to compare unit prices of liquids and solids

I think powder's cheaper.
you have to look at how many washes each bottle does, then you can get a meaningful comparision.

I use big boxes from Aldi or Lidl, I think they are the cheapest option. That or wait til its on offer at Sainsburys and buy a years supply.
