I know there are lots of mad pram obsessives on this site...well I need your help!

baby 3 due April - I am very excited as I have never had a summer baby. Both the others were wintery.

I have always wanted a 'proper' pram - have always ended up using a sling (as weather so cold) then transferring them to buggy at 6 weeks or so.

I live down a rutted old country lane and walk dd1 to school every day.

What I would like is a pram that is sturdy enough to cope with the terrain. I have dreams of sitting in the garden in May/June with baby dozing in pram rather than sitting in a buggy.

Dh horrified we would even consider buying another pram with our third baby...but I Want One!

Can you recommend anything?

rugged lane - go for a three wheeler. I had a Quinny Fashion which faced both ways, laid flat and was a dream to push "off road" so to speak. I just sold it to another MNer. Very cosy for new born too. I don't think they make it anymore but there are always loads on ebay.

you can now get carrycots for the mothercare urban detour three wheeler

bran · 06/01/2006 16:15

Jane do carrycots that you put onto a 3-wheel chassis, then when your child is bigger you put the pushchair seat on the chassis instead. But it's a lot more than you want to spend for a new one so you've have to try eBay if you wanted it.

Urban Detours are great and really sturdy, I have an Urban Detour Glacier and I love it, but I've never tried it with a carry cot.

Slightly getting ahead of myself (I'm not yet pregnant yet! ) but I have a secret yearning for one of these I'm assured they go very well on rough terrain, and corner well for urban stuff etc. Ebay have several for sale if you're not keen on paying full whack for it new.

Perhaps not best choice if you have small car and/or use public transport a lot, mind.

I had a Quinny Freesomething with ds1, it's like a tank and works on any off-road adventures, carry-cot can be used as a crib, very comfortable, and the push-chair option is like a luxury first class airline seat. The only thing is that is weighs about three tons and takes up all the boot space. I bought it purely on looks (doh...) as the red version is lovely.

sadly I think I may have solved the problem

there is a shop not a million miles away who do a carrycot attachment for a newer version of my existing three-wheeler

hopefully it won't fit

boogie 2 carrycot
