recommendation for a good home hair dye that covers grey!!

Has anyone used a good home hair dye, I'm only looking for one of the ones that lasts 6wks, that covers grey and gives a nice rich colour. I've got brown hair, so will stick to dark colours but maybe with a bit of red in, as it will only last 6 weeks if I don't like it. I've got a few grey hairs growing now, which I'm not happy about and need to get them covered up!! I like to use products that other people recommend if poss. as it's usually safer.

I think I've tried them all, and they're all much the same tbh (not had any disasters with them I mean!)

Movida is a semi permanent colour, conditions hair nicely but be warned the colours always seem to come out darker than they appear on the pack

I usually use permanent ones - the browns and reds fade within 6-8 weeks even though they're billed as "permanent".

Belle Color, Nutrisse, even Superdrug's own brand are all good.

Avoid the ones that go on wet hair as these don't usually cover grey well (it will say on the pack if it's suitable for covering grey).

thanks spacedonkey - I'll look for Movida, and good tip about coming out darker, I think I'm going to try for a reddish shade for a bit of warmth.

don't go for something with too much red in it, red is the strongest pigment so the colour will gradually go redder and redder as it fades, all the other pigments go but the red stays the longest.

my hair is dyed dark blonde and i always know its time to colour when its gone strawberry blonde

ok lucykate, another good tip - maybe I'll jst stick with a brown the first time, and see how I get on.

It's true, the red pigments do last longer. I'd go for a mid to dark brown - they usually have a bit of red in them giving a warm colour, even if they're not labelled as a red-brown

If you've only got a few grey, have you thought about a coloured shampoo...
superdrug do their own for 99p.. its a wash in and wash out colour, you can leave it on for 20 mins... the more you use it, it slightly colours your grey...
They do a nice chestnut brown one that really makes your hair shine.
People tell me my hair is really shiny.. do I colour it... I always say NO it natural...
they will never know...
