Have a look what is in the hampers fully? Would you use it all? Otherwise it is a lot of money going to waste. And don't forget you would need to add all the fresh stuff on top too - veggies, bread, fruit, etc.

do the vouchers. you pay 200pounds, you get 200 IYSWIM.

flutterbee · 03/01/2006 14:03

The vouchers are great, pay a little every month and get it all back in vouchers at the endish of November most shops accept them.

SueW · 03/01/2006 14:03

Wouldn't you be better off/as well off buyinf tesco/asda savings stamps or similar? At least you then have fre choice of what to buy

Gillian76 · 03/01/2006 14:03

Or why not set up a savings account and pay in weekly/monthly? That way if there's any interest on your savings it goes in your pocket and not Park's.

We did that this year and I would definitely recommend it. Means you know Christmas is taken care of and you can start early before the shops get busy

I would say a savings account would be better, just open an account at your bank and make sure it is a high interest one and that you have to give lots of notice to withdraw. Then give them notice in say, August, then do your shopping. You will not be restricted to certain shops then.

Asda do a card whereby when you do your normal shop, you put money onto the card. Then, depending on how much you have on the card, they give you extra money on top for Christmas, up to about a tenner I think, not sure.

Bank would be the best bet I think.

snap!

SueW · 03/01/2006 14:07

Or credit union? Aren't they good for this sort of thing?

At work someone runs a Xmas Club. Everyone pays in and then at Xmas the money is paid out again with interest from the acocunt.

Gillian76 · 03/01/2006 14:09

I do the Asda card thing too. Just add a few quid on when you get your weekly shop. It's great filling up your trolley at Christmas and not paying anything!

Or one year we saved it and used it at the end of Jan when money was particularly tight!

SPARKLER1 · 03/01/2006 18:12

I've "saved" and got the high street vouchers. Really good idea those. It was so nice to get them and know that I didn't have to spend out so much money in one go for christmas shopping.
Personally I think the food and drink hampers are a total rip of. You'd be better off saving Tesco stamps or putting money on an Asda card each week or month. They work out very expensive.

SueW · 04/01/2006 00:20

If you do the card thing, check out moneysavingexpert.com as he will give you the closing date and how to get more interest. Apparently it is awarded on the basis of how much you have on the card on the day interest is paid so you could be v organised, save in an account and earn interest all year then shove 150 quid on it the day before and earn 6 quid for one day of 'depositing' your money with them.

Gillian76 · 04/01/2006 00:22

Ooh cunning, SueW! Will check that out

Skribble · 05/01/2006 01:32

One year instead of buying lottery tickets with whatever change I had after shopping I started getting the saving stamps. Worked out very well considring i had never even won a tenner. I think I will do it again this year, never bother for the last couple and used the visa a lot come Christmas.

UCM · 05/01/2006 02:21

have just put a fiver on asdas saving card. Have been thinking about hamper for about 5 years but finally decided not to do it as I couldn't get anyone else interested and it was only worth it on a comission basis.
