Swimming trunks

Can anyone tell me where I can find a pair of swimming trunks for my 2.5 year old son now that summer's over. So far he's been using his kooshies swim nappy but it's not necessary now so would like to get him a pair of 'normal' trunks. Any suggestions? Yes I know I should have done it 2 months ago!

Boden.co.uk have bathing trunks in their mini boden catalogue. I have just checked on-line for you and they have all sizes available and are £12.

As far as I am aware, Adams and Mothercare display swimwear all year round - obviously more in the summer - since swimming is a year round activity. If you see none on display, it's worth asking a sales assistant if they have any trunks in the stockroom. When I needed a pair of grey school shorts for my son one autumn, there was nothing on display anywhere but upon asking I found a pair without much of a problem.

PS I got my 2 year old son a pair of Boden swimming trunks - cotton bermudas - in the summer sale. If you decide to go down that route, they are lovely and roomy and look as if they will easily last a year or two.

Do you have a shop at the swimming pool. One of our local pools sells swim wear all year.

Thanks guys - will see if I can get them from Mothercare/Adams hidden supplies!

hello everyone.

ds (19m) is growing out of his 18 - 24m aquanappy, and i can't find a larger size anywhere. surely the manufacturers don't expect all children to be potty trained by 24m or younger?

i would be very grateful for any advice on where to get a larger size (none in john lewis or my local mothercare).

thanks in advance.

bossykate - I had the same experience, but just put him in ordinary trunks, hoping there were no unpleasant accidents in the pool! He did pee in them before and just after getting out of the pool but seemed to "know" not to do it in the water. PS - I sent you an email today!

Can you not put him in swim nappies, with trunks over the top?

thanks, fionn. unfortunately we have prolific poo-ing atm, and i'd be unwilling to risk it, although we are strangely reassured as at least it means he is getting enough to eat somehow! saw your mail and will get back to you tomorrow.

chinchilla, i have been unable to find either reusable or disposable for ages above 24m. i'm hoping someone will be able to tell me that they have found some somewhere or confirm that they don't come any bigger...

thanks for your replies

DS2 fitted the Large Huggies disposable swimpants at 19 months and he was very very chubby. I'm hoping to get some to fit him for our holiday next week as a back up to the washable one.

It's not much help, but we've got 1 pair of rather worn looking trunks from the US which fitted a similarly chubby DS1 until he was reliably trained at 2y 10months and still fit DS1 at 24 months (albeit rather snugly).

I'd have thought the Huggies disposables would fit - my 21 month ds has just gone into the 2nd size, which go up to 34 lb, so I guess the larger size is even bigger.

Or you could try a Kooshies wrap around swim nappy.

Just looked up the Huggies sizes - the large size is described as being for children over 15 kg or 35 lb. So I'd have thought that would fit a 2.5 year old. You can always put normal trunks over the top as well.

We used the large size Huggies Little Swimmers until ds was 2.5, bossykate. Those were the days when he could poo for England too...and they always surived the onslaught...We might have some kicking around if you can't find them in the shops.

thank you, ladies!

digression alert! - really hope you don't object to that term - i probably would've when i was about 23 but well, i find more important things to worry about now, but will respect your views - digression over!

meanwhile, back at the swim nappies dilemma! thanks for that, i will look out for the huggies little swimmers, since they are disps might even be able to get them at sainsburys which would be a bonus.

thanks again everyone, this is so helpful.

Tescos have them too.

(and DS1 told me yesterday "you're not a lady, mummy, you're a girl. I'm not sure if that's good or bad...)

Bossykate - Boots have cute little swimming trunks with the waterproof lining and elasticated legs to contain "accidents" and they come in a size 2-3 years! I've just bought a pair for DS2, they're aqua with an embroidered fish on them.

A word of warning though - we used to use a pull up aquanappy, but when put to the test it failed miserable IYKWIM.....was one of the most unpleasant days in my life EVER!!!
