Amazing Amanda - anyone got one?

We bought one for our dd and have already had to take it back and get a new one.
All it does is say 'Say my name Mommy' in a really scarey way, it doesnt remember anything so when you turn it off it resets everything and you have to go through the whole set up again. It doesnt understand anyones voice in our family so just goes the potty all the time (aswell as the say my name thing!) And now the eyes on it wont close.
This doll cost £69, its awful - anyone have any hints or had the same problem?
Toys r us said they will happily give us a refund as they have had similar complaints but dd is reluctant to say goodbye!

Is this an updated version of Amazing Amy? My dad spent a fortune on her for dd one christmas and we all hated her horrible whining. Even dd was happy to have the batteries taken out after a week!

She was very tempermental, for instance she would keep insisting she was thirsty even though she was having her juice, and the sensors weren't brilliant. When you were playing 'simon says' she never knew when you were brushing her hair or hugging her.

She did do most of the things she was supposed to though which is more than yours seems to be doing. Personally I would accept Toys r us's offer, grab the money and run!

yes she is an updated version of the amy one i think, she is supposed to have voice recognition, knows days of the week time etc etc but it is hopeless

I have always maintained that we have more than enough whining children in our house anyway - can't understand why anyone would pay to introduce another one [baffled emoticon]. Ditto small things needing to be fed, cleaned, taken to the toilet etc etc! So no tamogotchis here either - I am mean!

I'm the same and my dad buying that rotten doll just confirmed it. Mind you, my sister turned up with a Furby for dd one year and I got quite fond of it. I even bought her another one off ebay when she 'killed' it by taking it in the sandpit. See, I'm not completely heartless .
