Recommendations for a pushchair.......

Chicagomum · 01/01/2006 21:19

Our Mamas and Papas pushchair which is now 4 years old is on its last legs. DS just turned 1 the week before xmas, so we will need a pushchair for at least another year or so. Obviously we don't need a full travel system with car seat etc, but I want to get a pushchair with raincover, foot muff etc rather than a light weight stroller. Any recommendations (don't want one that costs a fortune either if poss).

mothercare urban detour with swivel wheels.

I second the Urban Detour (I have a Glacier), very sturdy and easy to push. It's quite large though, so not good for public transport and it takes up a fair bit of space in the boot. I have a cheap, lightweight one as well just to take in the car/on airplanes/the tube. It's on sale on the Mothercare website atm, inc raincover but not cosytoes. You can also get them quite reasonably on eBay.

macleren volo (sp?) found really good and the lightest stroller on market

bran · 01/01/2006 21:45

I think 1 yo is probably a little young for a Volo as it doesn't give very good back support, fine for short, occasional use though.

Maclarens are also usually a good bet, my friend swears by hers, and you can often get them at very good prices on Kiddicare.com. You could always spend a happy couple of hours in Mothercare or John Lewis trundling pushchairs up and down the aisles to see what would suit you. (Or is that just my idea of a good time?)

errr and mine

bran · 01/01/2006 21:55

misdee. Last time I tried to play with the pushchairs in Mothercare the friend I was with told my (quite firmly) that I didn't need anymore pushchairs. What's needing them got to do with it?

misdee · 01/01/2006 21:57

i know

seriously, if you have room get an urban detour 3 wheeler. i had one with dd1+2, stupidly sold it when i won one on here, which wasnt as good. i did get another one at the charity shop, but it wasnt the same (mine was aubergine and had small metal spoked wheels, the charity shop one was burgendy with huge bike wheels lol). the newer ones seem heavier to me, so i sometimes pop on ebay to have a look. dont need it tho lol.

I've just ordered online a Urban Detour Pinnicle Kyoto from Mothercare for £160 incl raincover, bag and footmuff, zero postage. I thought it was a fairly good buy and everyone always says how good they are.

Isn't needed for public transport, needs to be compatible with a litaf seat to go, we do a lot of walking so it need to be comfortable to push not to heavy but a comfy supportive seat for ds and will keep him warm/dry etc. Needs to fold up into the boot of a ford focus, and not cost a fortune as dh feels it unnecessary to buy a new one. I have had this since dd was born and have only managed to persuade him to buy a lightwieght stroller for holidays. I wanted to get a new one when ds was born but was told it was totally unnecessary as this one was fine .

urban detour is compatable with seat to go.

bran · 01/01/2006 22:23

It should be easy to sort your dh out, jump up and down on the old pushchair until the wheels buckle then send him out for a walk with it.

misdee · 01/01/2006 22:25

check ebay for them. they are fab.

it wont take up too much room in the boot, tho are larger but i think fold slightly smaller than a normal buggy. my pram is too big too fit in my cars really, doesnt leave much room for shopping lol.

bran · 01/01/2006 22:29

I have one of these for ds instead of a cosytoes as I do a lot of walking and it's very windy around here. I found it warmer than a cosytoes because it zips right up to his neck if needed. I've found the Urban Detour to be very good on rough ground and long walks as I can have a long stride and really build up a bit of speed. I'm not sure how big the boot is in a Focus though, so you'd probably have to measure it as it is quite large when folded, although the back wheels are quick release which helps a bit.

louii · 13/10/2006 23:56

I would totally recommend the micralite, i have had a few different buggies and have found this one the best by far.
