dishwasher and range cooker recommendations ?

Hi there,

can anyone tell me of a site that compares dishwashers (I don't have a subscription to which? online). I guess we want it to be energy efficient, water efficient, and quiet .

Also - range cookers - preferably with a large grill. And can anyone convince me why I should have electric in preference to gas (I much prefer gas but since it has to be bottled it costs extra in conversion and installation).

thanks

Most places that sell dishwashers will give you a rating of various things. The John Lewis site is pretty good for information on products - obviously not exhaustive though!

thanks bugsy2 - will try that - was also hoping people would say - this one is great, or don't touch that one with a bargepole

we have an indesit dishwasher that is 2yrs old and the front panel is falling off.
we use it daily, but not excessively, so i don't think this dishawasher is much to get excited about, we've contacted the manufacturers but they are ignoring us at the moment.
I don't know if we have a bad machine, or if the whole range is a bit ropey though

Love my Miele dishwasher, it has been fantastic.

I have a Stoves range cooker, although it is dual fuel, the electric oven apparently has some benefits over gas, but I'm not sure exactly what as I've never had a gas oven. Would struggle to give up my gas hob, I love it.

If I had my choice again I wouldn't buy a Stoves range, there is nothing too awful about it, it was one of the top of the range models so of fairly sturdy construction but if I had my choice again I'd either go for Rangemaster or Cannon.

Bosch bosch bosch for the dishwasher. I wouldn't buy another brand and they always get top ratings on Which? Rememebr Seimens are also made by Bosch, so they are good too for built in ones.

Also get teh simplest one you need, don't waste money on loads of programmes, you will only use 1 or 2.

Range cookers, my personal choice is a Rangemaster. I LOVE IT, they are part of AGA and they are really solid, have decent pan stands and are a proper range cooker, not a large normal one IYKWIM. Gas is better for the hob, but electric is better for the oevn if it is a fan oven, you can get Dual Fuel ones.

Decide on how much space you have, they come in 90cm, 100cm and 120cm. Then look at features you want. I would ensure two ovens and a separte grill (personally what I liked) but lots have 2 ovens where one has a grill function.

Stoves I think is good as is Belling (owned by stoves, but cheaper models)

thanks that helps.

DH came up Miele as an option for dishwasher when serching the net.

Think we can go to 110cm with the cooker (new kitchen, new extension - going nuts trying to work out what to put where, flooring, doors etc - I hate it !). Have looked at the Rangemasters - definitely want a separate grill.

Anyone have a range cooker with bottled gas ?

we have a 100cm Brittannia range.It's fab,double oven,both with grills,dual fuel.

I have a Kuppersbusch dishwasher,pretty basic,personally wouldn't buy one again.

I am currently looking for a kitchen for our new house. I have decided to go with the Rangemaster Classic 110cm in black and chrome. I am going for a gas hob and electric ovens, but you can get them in all electric

Agree totally with crunchie, Bosch dishwashers brill and you don't need singing dancing one, dead basic cheap, good and nowt to go wrong (well nearly!)

mamandelion · 07/01/2006 16:43

Agree with Bosch, Miele or Siemens for dishwasher (although I think the cheaper Bosches are now made in Spain rather than Germany and maybe are not quite as good). We have a Smeg and it's been rubbish, so are changing to Siemens. I've just signed up for Which? online - your first month is free, so cancel your subscription after 3 weeks and you have nothing to pay. The latest tests show that Miele comes out on top for dishwashers but are pretty pricey.

Which? cheapest recommendations are these 2:

AEG throws down the strongest challenge to Miele with a pair from its Favorit range. Matching the Mieles? impeccable results for washing and drying, the AEG Favorit 40660 boasts quicker wash times than the Mieles, and an attractively cheaper price tag. The only downside is that it?s slightly noisier than the other Best Buys and a little less energy efficient. One drawback is that you can?t alter the height of the upper basket on this model. You can buy it for £299 in John Lewis.

Our final full-sized Best Buy dishwasher comes from Bosch. The Bosch SGS55MC02, at £300 from Comet and John Lewis, cleans dishes faultlessly, although we did notice a few smears and water droplets left behind on its main program. Handy features include a time-remaining indicator and option, allowing you to wash the upper rack only.

Otherwise it was 2 Mieles at £730 and £529 and an AEG at £460, all of which are silly prices IMHO.

thanks guys - that really helps a lot.
