DH has just got a new car (company one not a kind Santa!)with isofix, so I was going to get a Jane Indy plus to replace the maxi cosi booster seat but will it fit and so I can buy on the internet or have I got to find a local stockist to check the fit? Car is a BMW 5 series. Can anyone help please?

it needs to fit that particular group of models - you can find tables on stockists' websites. Our Isofix seat is available for all cars with Isofix, but I had to make sure to order the correct type IKYWIM.

i think the jane indy fits all isofix cars as it doesnt need a top tether.

geekgrrl · 01/01/2006 09:18

it's not the top tether though (our's doesn't have one) but the distance between the clamps/isofix brackets, this is different in different cars.

You go to a local stockist, find the one that fits and then order it from the internet if it's cheaper.

oh i hope the jane ones i have ordered fit then.

i think some cars will tell you that only THEIR (Extreamly expensive) ISOFIX seats will fit the car, so its probably worth checking the literature that comes with the car.

We have the Jane Indy plus and I can tell you that it does fit both of our cars (A3 and Discovery) perfectly despite them not being specifically listed on the manufacturers website as compatible. It also fitted DHs old car (Fiat Multipla) perfectly as well.

In all 3 cars, the isofix fittings are rectangular bars approx 5cms wide that the seat's isofix clamps click onto.

Almost all (except the Jane) Isofix seats are actually made by Britax, even where the x=car manufacturers don't say so. More recently other comanies have started to make them.

The Jane will fit any car with the isofix as, as already said, it doesn't have a top teather option and it is also using the car seat to hold the child in. The isofix is like a double protection/safety feaure.

Thanks for the suggestions, getting to a stockist isn't easy because DH works away alot so obviously the car is with him. Nearist stockist with stock seems to be about 40 mins away so I was just trying to be a bit more efficient with our time together particularly because the Rodi seat we have is good so it isn't top of his list of things to do at the moment . . .
The stockists just say come and try and have said that BMWs can be tricky to fit car seats in, the BMW isofix seat doesn't go up to the high back booster age and the BMW website recomends its own seats!!!
I can't find the Jane website so I can't see if they list comparable cars!!

I do understand though that the rules on older children in car seats is about to change this year so I wondered if there will be more choice of isofix seats suitable for the 4+ age - but then again I believe that the isofix rules don't actually cover this age group anway. Can anyone help further or have any ideas???

I keep holding out in the hope that they'll bring out more isofix models but the Indy is the only one in that class afaik. I have a nagging doubt about the lack of independent safety data on it. The Jane site is here which includes their crash data. Interestingly it says the Indy Plus is a 15kg plus seat - I thought it was also a stage 1 ?
