Can you recommend a good double/Queen/Kingsize bed?

Old one doing my back in. Have decided to treat myself to a lovely new bed, that's big enough to welcome the kids into in the mornings but cheap enough for me to be able to feed aforementioned kids for the rest of the month.

Where should I start? Haven't bought a bed in years...... hang on.... have NEVER bought a bed, always been given them. Now I want a new one!

Thank you

It's not the bed, it's the mattress that's important Go and lie on a few to see what they're like as different mattresses suit different people.

If you have the space, go for as big as you can though!!

MarsyChristmas · 29/12/2005 21:16

The mattress I really want would mean selling all the kids and a few souls along the way.

I want a bed that looks good though, preferably a light wood or a white frame. I agree about the mattress though Soupy. My current mattress is capital C rap!

Tempur Tempur Tempur. (Aint cheap, but a bl**dy good nights sleep, I can tell you!)

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 29/12/2005 21:18

Sell the children - you can replace them but not your back.

Snigger

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 29/12/2005 21:18

You can get that Tempur stuff as a mattress topper too which is cheaper than a whole mattress.

BournemouthBaubleBabe · 29/12/2005 21:19

Soupy, that's what we went for.

moondog · 29/12/2005 21:19

I've gor one from the Iron Bed Company.Lovely but pricey.
However, there are plenty in IKEA that impressme, for afraction of the price.

MarsyChristmas · 29/12/2005 21:20

lol.... right will start a for sale thread

Now soupy... do you have the mattress topper or should I just go down the selling the kids route?

festiveface · 29/12/2005 21:35

mines rest assured and it's bloody brilliant!
would definately recommend. Only trouble is i have a terribly hard job getting out of it in the morning..
it's 'up 2 3 4' ....and then for the other eyelid...

notasheep · 29/12/2005 21:40

ALL our beds are RestAssured !!!!

BournemouthBaubleBabe · 29/12/2005 21:41

titter, sorry! Have a look at the website, tempur.co.uk. They call mattress toppers "overlays" and Tempur do a 60 night free trial. There should be a price list but a King is about £850, I reckon. We were lucky in that DH works for a mobility co and got a discount, but it has been worth its weight in gold as DH slipped a disc earlier this year and swears by it.

If you go for the overlay you could keep the mattress you currently have and just buy a new bedstead in the sales - that's what we did and our mattress was 10 years old.

Don't get it wet - it has a cover that zips off for washing but it isn't very nice if the overlay gets wet.

HTH!

MarsyChristmas · 30/12/2005 11:50

ta BBB.

Goodness, I knew they were expensive but if that's what the topper costs... who knows what the actual mattress costs.

I'm gonna get rid of our old bed completely. It's completely knackered and it's only a double.

Thanks for that though.

Will also check out the rest assured beds. Where might I find them then?

This website sells Tempur, and it's own, cheaper version of Tempur. I've been eyeing up the matresses myself as ours is due to be replaced.

suzi2 · 30/12/2005 14:22

Costco had cheap Tempur style toppers. I think a king was about £120. Not sure if they still have them as haven't been in for a few weeks. IKEA do padded matress toppers that are good.

HIJACK: Question about the Tempur - does it make you really warm in bed?

itllbelonelythisdavros · 30/12/2005 19:36

Oh goody, perfect thread as DH and I were heading to Harrods or Heal's next Weds to look at new beds. We will now go to Back In Action to look at Tempur and BIA's own version. What I'd like to know is if anyone has one of those electric bed thingies? I know they're naff but I dream of a bed I can sit up and read in comfortably and stick my legs up if I so choose . Are they any good? Are they worth it? Is it just another piece of kit needing maintenance?

itllbelonelythisdavros · 31/12/2005 13:05

BUMP
Need an answer on the electric, legs up and down, option....
