Want to buy one this week.

Is Frost Free worth the extra cash?

How often do you have to defrost a normal upright freezer? Is it a nightmare?

Can you recommend one? or steer me away from rubbish ones.

As always forever in your debt.

I have a worktop-height Bosch and honestly, defrosting it takes about an hour, tops, every few months - less often if everybody always remembers to shut it properly...

Very un-green, frost-free, you know.

They use a lot more electricity, cycling on and off - or something - hang on, I will research!

GreenChoices.org - says they use 45% more power (not sure how up to date that is though, I think the manufacturers are working on it.)

Oh, just seen that you believe me anyway - thank you, cherub

I have an old upright in garage & defrost it once a year for christmas - but this is only because the door seal is not perfect at top so fills with "snow"! Can't get replacement seal (Make no longer exists) and it works fine.

I too would recommend Beko as a brand. I've had 2 Beko freezers and they're both great. One is frost free - which I would definately recommend. Although it can dry your bread and ice cubes out if they're not well wrapped. Comet have a frost free one in the sale at £199 - can't remember the brand though.

Do bear in mind that some freezers aren't designed to go in outbuildings and the warranty won't cover them if they go wrong. Comets website tells you if they're OK for this in the Product Detail.
