Are next clothes worth the money? Or are they just a waste of space.

OP posts:

lol Have just read this through and come to the conclusion that my two must be a lot rougher than anyone else!! I've had a pair of jeans for dd and two pairs for ds that haven't lasted 5 minutes until they've got holes worn away in the knees!!

I also hate their sizes - would love to know what they base their measurements on!!!

That said, dd has just got a gorgeous dress from there for xmas day so I'm undecided on love/hate them!!

welshboris · 20/12/2005 10:38

Love Next, DD has been in their clothes since birth. Lasted really really well, dont really mind the labels.

Good range of clothes, buy everything from there

And they are still in good condition when I sell them on Ebay

MrsSpoon · 20/12/2005 10:47

I quite like Next, think they wear really well and in many cases are no more expensive than anywhere else. Sometimes I have looked at stuff in ASDA, gone home and looked in the Diectory and found similar for only £1 more, which IMO is worth it as the cut of the Next stuff fits my DSs much better than ASDA do.

QueensSpeechEagle · 20/12/2005 10:49

I love Next - me and the kids are walking adverts for the place. I do prefer the clothes with no labels but I don't mind a discreet one though sometimes.

Recently dd (14) was looking for jeans - just plain ones. We looked everywhere, most prices were £30 or more. Went to Next and found a lovely pair for £16 - can't complain at that.

FairyTaleinNewYork · 20/12/2005 10:52

plain jeans are about 3pounds IIRC in tesco lol.

QueensSpeechEagle · 20/12/2005 10:55

They may be plain but the cut is all wrong - what teenage girl wants jeans with 6 spare inches of fabric hanging down in her gusset? My dd is really skinny and I find Next stuff just fits her better than anywhere alse.

ds4 is wearing stuff which ds3 had as ababy and it all looks brand new still. Hard to beat Next quality imo for the same sort of price.

FairyTaleinNewYork · 20/12/2005 10:56

sorry thought dd was younger. 16pounds is good for wellcut jeans.

not too many logos or slogans in evidence here

DD has the little brown dress with the flowers on which the little girl is wearing over jeans on this page

OComeOliveFaithfOil · 20/12/2005 11:16

Don't like the logos but they can be low key on some stuff.

They wash really well, some of my tops have been through dd1 and are now on dd2.

Prefer Gap, seem more stylish and not all bloody pink!

Next clothes fit my DS really well and I like most of their stuff. For a housework slob they are a dream to wash and tumble dry too!
He also wears stuff from Oshkosh, Gap, Tesco and Asda and have to say that Tesco and Next are the ones that fit him, wear and wash the best.

Blackduck · 20/12/2005 12:41

DS as a 'Hopit' top he loves (non-logoed!!) but otherwise I hate the fact that you are giving them free advertising with 'Next' plastered all over everything....!

Bozza · 20/12/2005 12:47

Right well different perspectives from Mums of boys and girls. I think the boys stuff is much more logoed and quite dull, but agree with others about the styling of some of the girls stuff being too old/tarty and sometimes a bit samey. But DD has been passed on lots of pairs of cords etc in various colours that are perfectly acceptable and also polo necks etc.

DissLocated have you tried washing the tights before DD wears them? They might shrink down a bit.

NewBethlehemGirlwithsparkles · 20/12/2005 12:50

Love Next clothes.

They fit brilliatly, wash great and last.

In fact Next is one of the 3 shops I will only buy dd's clothes from. The others are M&S and H&M.

I find that Asdas, Tescos and Matalan are rubbish. The sizes are all to pot and they shrink in the wash.

mogwai · 20/12/2005 20:18

Some of the Next stuff that's been bought or handed down to my baby is horrendous, eg a trouser and top set in army fabric (??? for a 3-6 month old girl) and a mini skirt in barbie pink.

On the other hand, some of the stuff is very pretty (denim pinafores, stripey tights), you just have to choose carefully.

I think you can't beat JFB at john Lewis for colour, fit and quality.

Rudolphthebluenosedteddy · 20/12/2005 20:32

Hate the logo's on all the boy's stuff!
My boy's have the odd pair of jeans from there & I have recently bought DS2 a nice stripy tank top, which doesn't have a logo in sight!
I tend to buy them more stuff from Gap (who have better sales) & vertbaudet.

Mercy · 20/12/2005 20:56

Mogwai - yes yes totally agree!. Got ds a great winter coat there recently, half the price of Gap etc. A toddler does not need inside pockets for a mobile phone.

Epiffany · 20/12/2005 20:57

I dislike most of them and the fit is dreadful on dd

RacersTheRedNosedReindeer · 20/12/2005 21:57

Apart from some sizing problems, I like about a quarter to a third of the stuff in Next, which is good going for me! Not a fan of slogan tops like 'I'm a Princess' etc. though. I try to buy in the sale or when one or both Grandmas are with me as they invariably buy an outfit

mazzystar · 20/12/2005 22:00

Nay, boys stuff is really depressing
