a local marquee hire company?

or a church hall/community centre

NannyL · 18/12/2005 12:42

could you borrow one from a neighbour and put them next to each other? or use a garden furntiure set or similar?

mumfor1sttime · 18/12/2005 12:43

Get the emergency chairs out and sit up at the work tops!

zippimistletoes · 18/12/2005 12:45

in the past we have got a large oiece of chipbaord and put it on top of the table to extend, doesn't notice covered with a clock

suedonim · 18/12/2005 13:47

If you've a numbe rof children coming put them together on a smaller table (picnic, kids play table etc) Or a sturdy wallpaper pasting table is useful for extra guests.

zippimistletoes · 18/12/2005 15:23

mdf is [probably better

and obviously not cover with a clock!!!

try a cloth

TheFish · 18/12/2005 16:08

dirt cheap

jac34 · 18/12/2005 16:46

When we had 10 for Christmas lunch, our dinning table sat 6 and we brought the garden table and chairs in from outside. Once I'd put a cloth on it,it looked fine we put all the childern on there.
Also have you thought of a paste table for wallpapering, ask around perhaps someone you know has one.

Tables for hire from HSS and similar will be good and sturdy. You might also be able to hire a table cloth (whatever you normally prefer, you'll need one as those kinds of tables are cacky). For 10 people, six foot/1.8m diameter is preferable to 5'/1.5m if going for circular.

We are in the same position here. Stepped in to have xmas dinner here as my mum is still in hospital and even though we hope she will be out for xmas, she won't be capable of cooking dinner!

Looked on the HSS site, but the delivery/collections cost is about £12 each way then you have to add VAT don't you?

littlechristmaself · 18/12/2005 18:15

thanks everyone will look on hss site and ask friends too the garden table is also a good idea
