Bl**dy clothes shops and their no refund policies....

had a nightmare today as I want to get dh a new leather jacket for xmas, went to Richmond but of course all the twee little shops have a no refund, only exchange policy. Great, so if he doesn't like his jacket he will be left with hundreds of pounds to spend at some poncey little shop full of clothes he isn't into!

I had to leave a couple in a big huff

(made up for it by blowing a fortune in space nk though )

It does piss me right off though, fgs it's xmas, people are going to want to bring things back.

I never except the no refund policy in shops if the little oik on the counter won't refund me (with my receipt of course) then I demand to speak with someone else and always get my money back. Its just damn bloody cheeky within a reasonable time to refuse a refund.

But fact is they are not legally obliged to refund or exchange in those circumstances , although many would if you asked when you bought. Smaller shops need to make the most of selling at full price. If you return it after Christmas then their opportunity to do so is vastly reduced. Big retailers can negotiate bulk buy discounts and price their merchandise with a built in factor to be able to reduce the price if needs be, and still make money on it. As Cod implies, the alternative it to have bland chain stores, ultimately reducing your choice. Personally I prefer to support local retailers.

Yes so do I but they should appreciate that with something as personal as clothing (esp expensive clothing!) that it may not fit or be to the person's taste.

Benetton has this policy too - or at least that's what my PILs visiting from NZ were told. It's certainly not right for a large retailer imo
