Ideas for Christmas present for an 8 month old?

My family are asking already for what to get my DS for christmas. They are all mortified when i say we are getting him 2 or 3 things and that it....He'll only be 8 months old!!! We are putting money in an account so we can go on a big holiday next year.

He loves his jumparoo and will likely be too big for it soon the way he growing. Have any of you had any other bouncy/noisy/sit-on toys for 8 month old?

I have also told my sister to give him a cardboard box with a helium balloon in it!!!

One of those trikes that changes as they grow?

Paschaelina · 26/09/2011 11:19

yy smart trike is good, though they are from 10m upwards, we did it as a 1st birthday present. We are getting my son who will be 15m a big toy box for christmas - everyone else can fill it! Grin

check out partyark.co.uk - they have some really lovely traditional toys that i bet the grandparents will love (none of that plastic rubbish you get these days (can't you hear them saying it!!?)

there's some great wooden toys which baby can drool over/chew on that won't get destroyed and will last ages - good luck!!

PaschaTheSlasher · 11/10/2011 11:37

Ha! Boy ignores all the lovingly bought wooden stuff for a red plastic pushalong Wilson from Chuggington!

The brighter the better IMO.

lisaflipflop · 11/10/2011 11:57

fair enough!!!!
shame we can't influence what our little darlings like isn't it - wooden stuff always looks much nicer strewn around the lounge - means I don't feel the need to tidy up quite so much!!

look at Treegifts.com for a great 1st Christmas present that will grow big enough to hold a rope swing when he's old enough. They come with engraved plant markers so you can add a special message. And its good to grow more trees!

What about something for his room, some art?

Here

small disclaimer - yes I do make them! But I started becasue I made one for my son!!

There are heaps of other art posters too which would last him for ages in his nursery! My son has moved onto dinosaurs now...My other son has an alphabet chart...

VTec First Steps Baby Walker. Very good value toy, ours has had loads of use from our two little ones. All kids who come over seem to love it too.

I think a rocker's good for a first christmas, we liked the little tikes one.

Or a scuttlebug? Or a wheelybug? Or a first trike? Or some happy land?

Dandare · 13/11/2011 11:53

Or nothing as he hasn't a clue yet!!

If people insist, ask for books? he will get loads of pleasure from being read to now and then will read himself as he gets older. The balloon is a must - everything else is for grown ups benefit not for his - but family DO desperately want to buy.

My dd is 8mo and she loves her door bouncer. She also likes stacking rings (although can't stack them yet), touchy feely books like the 'that's not my ....' series. Also, she was recently given a wooden noahs ark which says 2 yrs plus but she loves it already and hopefully it will still be popular when she's older.

We're buying her a happyland london bus for chrimbo - happyland seems to be v popular and they play with them for years.

oh, and she has a vtec mobile phone which she loves too.

Bath toys or a bath book would be good also.

cheekyginger · 21/11/2011 10:40

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have got him a vtech "chase" me kitten to hopefully stop him chasing our cats!!
And he is definately getting more interested in books, so books are a goer.

Chase me Kitten? We need one of those! Our poor cats are living on the edge of sanity at the moment.

cheekyginger · 21/11/2011 12:10

HIi pascha think its actually called chase me kitten! It's ginger just like our cats!!!! I bet it scares the crap out of the cats more than the baby!!
