.

In church this morning the vicar was asking the children what they wanted for christmas and the ones in class 4 and class 5 all seemed to want an I - POD {shuffle} or a MP3 player

These are 9 and 10 year olds

I was very surprized that they would have enough music in their collection to warrant having one

I imagined they were pressies for teenagers or adults.

Are your children wanting one of either of these and if so how old are they?

my dd1 who is 5 keeps pinching my mp3 player. i did consider a cheap one with mini speakers as at least then cd's wouldnt get scratched. but i havent got her one.

RTKangaSantaMummy · 16/12/2005 11:44

oh I didn't realise there were cheaper versions

I thought they were about £100 - £200

DS doesn't really listen to music very often but I was surprized that they had enough music in their collection

you can get cheap mp3 palyers for under 40pounds. dont hold much but enough for kids.

not even i have an I-Pod, maybe one day as they do hold a heck of a lot.

My neice got one at 11 or 12 (I think) she was the first person I know who got one.

You can get cheap and cheerful ones, Ipod shuffles start from about £80, but supermarkets have ones that ghold about 30 - 40 songs for £30

my ds is 11 and is getting an ipod, he ahs a very exgensive music collection!
He already has cd walkman and a mini disc player he is an ancient convert!

I do worry about young children having the means to put on earphones and shut out the world.

but then I won't let my 6 y.o. have a GameBoy or Playstation.

Epiffany · 16/12/2005 12:39

my ds is only allowed his in the house, or when out with us, it would easily make him a target walking around for it getting nicked
He is a serious music lover, he loves rock like Queen Nirvana The Darkness etc
So on headphones while hes doing is homework is far better than us being subjected to it too

MP3s are much tougher for kids - one drop and an i-pod is broken. Lots of young people I know are having last year's ipod replaced by an MP3 this year. Dd was just 11 when she got her MP3.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 16/12/2005 13:42

37 and a half

My ds is nearly 10 and I think he's too young. Perhaps it's because he doesnt express an interest in them and if he did I'd probably think differently.
