Aiwa fx2800 video player: has anyone got a manual?

I will be extremely grateful if anyone can help. I bought this vcr from a colleague who was moving back to Australia and we have had great difficulty with it. Its not broken because sometimes it works, but often I just cant get it to do anything. There is a code number, which we have, but its not apparent when you have to put it in and I just tend to frantically push all the buttons and hope for the best.Sometimes this apoproach works, but unsurprisingly, not always! So please, come to my rescue someone. I will of course willingly pay for photocopying, postage etc

Soyabean why not contact a local repairer of videos.
It might be a long shot but worth asking.

Thanks for looking. The person who sold it to me said it was new 3 or 4 years ago. It has a security code which I think may be causing the problems. She told me you have to put the code in before you can use it but the machine doesnt seem to react when I put the no. in. I cant usually get it to go from standby (ie just the digital clock) to whatever the 'ready to play' mode is (ie with all the 00000s and symbols on the little screen.) Sometimes I have done the right thing without realising it, and it works; other times I have a very frustrated 4 yo. (and 40 yo)

Soyabean - I looked at the Aiwa website, because I've sometimes found that manufacturers have downloadable old manuals there. I don't know if you've checked this out ... the manual for your model isn't there, but there are other manuals, and I wondered if some of the features of the different models might be similar enough for them to help you out. I notice that most of the videos have a child lock feature - could it be this (set, I think, by a button on the remote) that is causing your hot-and-miss problems? The website for access to the manuals is here

Thanks so much for that Ange. I had looked on the Aiwa site and seen they didnt have the manual. they recommended a supplier but they also didnt have it which is why I turned to the wonderful Mumsnet. Its have tried to find out which model is similar but to no avail so far. But your idea about the child lock I will investigate. cant see anything obvious but must persevere!
