Dd (7) has long, fine, straight hair and is asking for one of those curling tong sets, eg Bang on the Door, etc. I keep looking at them and thinking they look as if I won't be able to make them work/they won't last long. Has anyone's dd got a set that works well and is easy to use?

Personally I wouldn't get teh 'Bang on the door' branded sets as you are paying for the name. Carmen Girl do a set which is less pricey. However It will tie you in to doing it for her, unless she coudl be trusted with a hot appliance!!

Mmm... some of our teenage babysitters are good at hair twiddling. Shame we no longer have a nanny - they're always so good at neat hair! But thanks, I'll look at Carmen.

She could swap hair with my dd, who has lovely thick curly locks, but does everything she can to straighten them

I know, one of the tong things I picked up and inspected was also a straightener - last thing dd needs!

Carmen Angel Curls - £14.99 in Boots (just reduced from £20). Probably not suitable for a child to use but great for you to use on her.
