for lady who took my kids to school for years. fantastic woman, great family. good people.
i want to spend about a hndred pounds. i dont know much about their likes and dislikes. they are reasonably well off , and she does spend on herself as well.

my thoughts
1 crystal glasses
2 wine hamper type thing
3 other alcohol typpe thing
4 gold jewellry type stuff.
5 good quality mugs type stuff.

for some ideas, a hundred is too litttle. for others is too much. i am happy to spend less as long as it looks like a wow pressie. but not really happy to go over the 120 mark.
mn suggestions would be much appreciated

If it was me , I would like to receive the crystal. It's special and tasteful.

thanks. that was my original idea, until i went on the house of frasers website and saw the wine bits.

while I'm not a huge fan of crystal, one of my nicest wedding presents was a Waterford crystal vase, from a collection designed by John Rocha. Looked very different to any crystal i'd seen before. Also its a good brand which with still retain its value in years to come.
This was about 5 years ago so theirs designs/style will have changed, worth a look though.
think it cost around £100-150, but they have smaller and larger pieces too.

why is it that everything i like costs about a zillion pounds??
or is out of stock?

What about a pamper day or a night away in nice hotel with tickets to a show?

JackieNoCribForABed · 13/12/2005 11:46

This Waterford Jasper Conran jug is rather nice, as is this carafe . But quite modern, and you may be after something more traditional in style.

moondog · 13/12/2005 11:48

Sorry, but what does one actually do with crystal carafes????
Can't recall seeing one do anything but moulder in a cupboard.

A pampering session would be much nicer

I quite like them, but you're right you do actually have to use them - at least with something like this you can use it for juice or water, or for flowers if you prefer.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 13/12/2005 11:54

I'd say no to crystal - they may already have a matching set and it's all very personal taste (eg I hate the fancy cut crystal, preferring plainer versions)

Something I did like was from Emma Bridgewater's newish glass range - a water carafe with "drink me" etched on it in roman capitals. It was about £60 from John Lewis. Plain and simple enough to fit into any household.

\link{http://www.emmabridgewater.co.uk/html/gifts/gifts3.asp?cat=Glass&cols=3\Glass here. Carafe is cheaper - wonder if I saw a larger one of mis remembered the price. Anyway I also like the tumblers - £32 for 2.

Glass here.

nice stuff!
i ended up goiingg to debenhams and buying a set of six royal doulton wine glasses for 50 quid. down from 100!
the reason i didnt opt for the days out was that they are reasonably well off. she runs her own successful businnness, and always dresses trendily, hair and nails done. gym membership etc. and dont know her well enough to know what would be appropriate.
thank you all for your lovely ideas.
