Yeah, its OK as a bit of extra entertainment in a room where you don't usually glue to the TV and you do get some good extra radio channels (BBC7). We couldn't justify ANOTHER cable TV box in the house. I wouldn't recommend it as a great new toy.......

codswallop · 21/10/2003 21:29

we coudnt get reception and the shop were very iffy about having it back

Furball · 21/10/2003 22:06

We've got a Thomson one. If you are not an avid tv viewer but want a bit more than the standard channels you might as well go for it. We've found it worth it on it's own just to have Cbeebies. You can check your postcode on the Freeview site to see if you can get reception and tell you what channels you can get.

debster · 22/10/2003 12:35

We got it for CBeebies mainly and you get BBC3, BBC4 and Five but I also watch crap on it like QVC(!) and the music channels. It's ok but sometimes the reception goes as it is still connected to the aerial. I think it's worth the £100.

dadslib - does Rupert Murdoch get nothing from this? Just asking because there are some Sky channels on it

Gem13 · 22/10/2003 14:20

dadslib - should I believe the Freeview site saying that I will need a different aerial?

doormat · 22/10/2003 14:21

another vote for bid-up -tv

got a great knife set in a briefcase for £20.

Mog · 22/10/2003 14:23

Dadslib,
Quite often people do need a new ariel if they haven't had theirs renewed in the last 10 years. Digital transmission is very sensitive and needs a more modern hi-tech aeriel.
We got freeview free with our TV package but did need a new ariel which cost £100. Quite disappointed with the TV programmes but like the music channels and great channel 5 reception.

kayleigh · 22/10/2003 14:31

We have freeview and and are really happy with it. On the couple of occasions it has gone strange - picture has seized up - you just turn the set top box off, unplug and then re-plug cable and it all works ok again. This has happened maybe twice in the 8 months we've had it.
Occasionally we get bad reception - weather dependant. But on the whole very pleased esp with ITV2, BBC3 and the wonderful Cbeebies channel !!
I also have to admit to a morbid fascination with bid-up TV. Can anyone really talk that fast - or is it speeded up I'd love to know - have any of you actually bought anything from it ?

debster · 22/10/2003 15:22

Even with Freeview we don't get ITV2. What is it with Brighton?! Tell me I'm not missing much.

tamum · 22/10/2003 16:05

I noticed in Woolworths a few days ago that they had two different makes of Freeview type boxes, and both were aroound £60, so they seem to have come down in price, for what that's worth.

Davros - does that mean you have cable AND freeview?

Robinw you get Sky Sports News. We have inherited PILs old ITV digital box so no info on makes from me.

Davros · 23/10/2003 18:03

yes! 2 cable boxes, 1 freeview, 3 DVD players and 5 tellies! We are SAD! We buy lots of DVDs on Amazon as its got so expensive to hire them and if you forget to take them back you've nearly paid for your own copy anyway. Since having a baby 7 months ago, and with our autistic son, we do stay in quite a lot but we both love an evening at home with nice grub and grog and a good film

Actually Ks, now I think about it, the tv in the girl's bedroom is only terrestrial, and it has awful reception.
