Wooden Dollshouse - what would you reccomend ?
PopsP · 21/10/2003 13:51
I am thinking of getting my young daughter one of the traditional wooden dollshouses like the ELC one. Are they worth buying ? Do they get played with ?
I sometimes think the plain wooden furniture looks a bit boring and I wondered whether it would be better to buy the painted wooden furniture ? Can anyone reccoment a make ?

ohh I'm glad you posted PopsP, thinking the same thing myself, as they seem to be very expensive..my dd is 2, how old is yours? Is 2 too young for this sort of thing? Looking forward to hearing any advice!

I thought about the Plan one which is similar to the ELC one, for my 'mindies' but thought it a bit boring too. I bought the one from GLTC as it has doors that close, more the traditional style and you can just chuck everything into it at the end of the day. doll's house

hana and PopsP, dd got the Plan toys doll's house for her second birthday, and she is still playing with it over 2 years later... She goes through phases when she always wants to play with it, then forgets about it for a few weeks, then she loves it again (but she does this with all her toys). It's also nice to be able to add some furniture little by little, as it makes it more exciting for them, I would definitely recommend it. It's also very sturdy.
have fun!

Sorry about the double post, it took so long I thought it hadn't happened!

Bought DD the Plan dolls house for Xmas when she was just 3.
Sold it last week for next to nothing, including a family, 4 different sets of furniture. It had barely been played with
She's not a doll kinda girl though and prefers paper, scissors, sellotape.

I can't wait till Lottie is capable of playing with a dolls house so I can play with it too. I dreamt of having a dolls house when I was a child, ended up making my own and played/made things for it all the time. My step-father wants to buy it for her, a right old fashioned lovley one and I'm so excited!!!!!! I also bought her a make your own set when she was a couple of days old! I feel the same about rocking horses, but agian like the old fashioned classic ones so v expensive. have to hope step-father feels same way about them as he does a dolls house!!!!

My dd has the Plan Georgian house and just adores it. She's hoping Santa will bring the basement for Xmas, and some bunk beds, as they can't all go to bed at the same time, atm!

My son has one like the Plan one -his grandparents bought it for his 2nd birthday a few months ago and he really likes it. Anyone not using theirs - we've lost daddy!!! Any spares?

Have mentioned this several times, but check out TK Maxx for Plan and pin toys dolls houses, furniture etc.. Also garages and cars. Our local branch has a stack of farmhouse dolls houses for 39.99 rather than 79.99 as well as the trad styles at half price. Got DD a house from there last year and it's great, but she's a very dollified, girly girl. Personally not that keen on the ELC ones. Letterbox has some pretty dolls houses too.

Hana - My dd is not 1 until the middle of December ! But as she is going to be spoilt rotten by our familes for both her birthday and christmas, I thought we would get the Dollshouse for her 1st birthday as it would be something special that she is likely to keep for quite a while rather than getting her yet another baby toy that she will have grown out of in a few months. It will look nice in her room until she is old enough to play with it. Also Im a bit like Thomcat I can't wait to play with it myself, and I would just love an old fashioned rocking horse too.
Marialuisa - I took your advice and popped down to our local TK Maxx - all they had was one bedroom set, no houses or people. I will try them again next week.
The ELC discount at the McArthur Glen designer outlet often has the wooden dollshouse reduced quite a lot, they sometimes have furniture as well.

PopsP, do you mean Cheshire Oaks?? That place costs me a fortune. We got a nice (but small) wooden rocking horse from Ikea for about 25 quid. Letterbox have similar ones for about 45.

I love the one they sell in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art....you can check it out on the shop website, sorry don't know how to do links. It is ultra groovy. There is also a lovely wooden one that you can probably get in England.

ohhhhh tried TKMaxx in Kingston for the Plan wooden dollhouse and accessories, but no luck.
But did manage to find the FP Doctor's Kit which I haven't seen since I had one years ago! So, can anyone tell me where the TKMaxx stores are with the cheaper wooden dollhouses? Thank you very much!

Twinkie, excuse me butting in, but I would definitely have a good look at the assembly instructions for your dd's dollshouse before Christmas Eve. It may be only a few hours' job, but it may not- my parents did one for my dd and it took them ages longer than they thought, and I'd hate to think of your poor dp being up all night on Christmas Eve!

I'm up north, but they had them in Cardiff last year. Still along way from kingston though!
Should add, they get new stuff in all the time so if there's one in your town centre it's worth popping in to see if they've got new stock.
