Kitchen "machine" kenwood,kitchenaid or magimix?

I'm now rediscovering the joys of baking and home cooking as my new kitchen is fnished and my children are no longer attached to me constantly. I' ve realised though that I don't have the time I once did and would benefit from a "machine" rather than doing everything by hand. My present electrical appliances are a hand held kenwood whisker and a braun handheld blender thing but the chopping attachment has given up the ghost since doing 2 stints of weaning. I love baking cakes but I'm not sure if I need to buy two separate machines so that I have one to chop and liquidise. I love the look of the kitchenaid but is it practical? any advice greatfully received as I'm getting so confused and I'd quite like Santa to bring it.

ooh spooky, I was just going to post a thread about EXACTLY the same thing!! as Argos have loads of offers on at the moment -
Not sure whether this one would be fine for soups or to go for this one and splash out!!

If it's baking you want then I would go for either the kenwood mixer or the kitchenaid, the cakes will be lighter and you can make larger quantities for batch baking also less fiddly and eassier to clean

also heavier mixes and pastry will be better with those

a food processor is mor for vegetables if you want lots of grated carrot or make soups etc You can do cakes batter etc but the results will not be as good and the process is much more fiddly

lucycat I've got the second one which is very good you really need a liquidiser for soups if possible and the motor on the philips is bigger so will usually last longer and tackle more tough assignments, but there will be a cheaper version if it's just soup you want it for

great zippi, thanks. my Magimix is due to be replaced as it's tired & old. I'd probably go for KitchenAid but they're so expensive. My stepmother still has hers from the '70s so it must be a good make.

Thanks zippi, I'll probably opt for the Phillips too, so I don't have to do so much hand kneading of bread!! and the bowl capacity is much better than some of the others - ta I'm off to Argos!

How about getting a kenowwd chef? (they are expensive tho!) and can have loads of attachmenst to make and do just about every thing! even thisgs like makin sausages!

They have their factory shop (next to their factory) in Havant (south east hampshire) so if you are even a bit close it may be worth driving down to save £50ish + all the attachments cost less from there as well

no contest. kitchenaid. you'll still be using it 30 years later and it looks fab and does a wonderful job. I love mine

My numbers will have to come up tonight for me to be able to afford one unfortunately - it will definately be in my dream kitchen though!!

My wife is looking for a food processer or food mixer for Christmas. All she will say is that it must make cakes, chop veg and make pastry.

The kitchenaid range is highly recommended elsewhwere on mumsnet, but shouldI buy a mixer or a processor.

by the way, sheloves the Dyson I bought her for her birthday>

mixer won't chop veg. will make lovely cakes, mix beautifully, do fantastic bread and pastry though.

buy her the kitchenaid mixer and she can get some processer or other for chopping veg (they are 2 a penny)
