Thought I would start a thread so we can post any bargains/ special offers or limited stock items we spot.

Wooden track, castles and more at Lidls .

Skrimble, Gingerbear has started a thread on the railway! The castle looks good, too...

Skrimble · 08/12/2005 23:13

I know it took me so long to atually post it. Come on post your other bargains here so i don't look completely silly .

FauveGoldRings · 08/12/2005 23:22

Durrrr, but LIDL tell me about their bargains. I have to go to the shops to see other ones. However, WHSmith seem to be offering 25% off games, which if you're after Simpsons Scrabble, as I am, is worth thinking about.

collision · 08/12/2005 23:27

What are the toys like at Lidl? The castle looks great as does the train track but do you think they fall to pieces after a while?

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:29

I have a doll's house from there that is 3 years old and still going strong.

FauveGoldRings · 08/12/2005 23:31

According to Radio 4, stuff is cheap because you have to put up with a horrible shopping experience (this is true). Also stuff is labelled in languages other than English, sometimes. If you ask a shop so-called assistant for help, you will not get it. But stuff is cheap.

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:36

Lidl round here has a gorgeous sultry young maayaan working there - think he is from one of the 'Stan's (Uzbekistan, Kurdistan... Moondog wuld know). He is most polite and helpful and has a smile that launched a thousand ships, lights up the room etc. Women have been known to swoon in the aisles.
Not a typical Lidl shopping experience I suspect.

Skrimble · 08/12/2005 23:37

So much for a bargain thread you hussy .

collision · 08/12/2005 23:38

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:38
Grin
FauveGoldRings · 08/12/2005 23:39

That would be another bar to effective shopping, though, wouldn't it - unconscious women in the aisles.

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:43

very good Fauve! That and the lack of hand baskets.

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:44

The men may be delicious, but Lidl veg is rubbish.

collision · 08/12/2005 23:50

Another bargain ATM is Travelodge! They are doing rooms for £26 per night!! The whole room! Dh, 2 ds's and me are going to go to London and stay for 2 nights in January and take ds to the Natural History Museum!

GingerBearingGifts · 09/12/2005 00:11

for 21 days in advance you can book a travelodge room for £10 per night.

Am I right in saying the rate of pay in Lidls is actually quite high or perhaps it was Aldis.

OP posts:
FauveGoldRings · 09/12/2005 00:32

Handbaskets, yes. And you have to stuff your pockets with old carrier bags, or you'll find yourself having to part with several pence to BUY a Lidl one. I can't vouch for the durability of Lidl toys (although dd is getting a toy Landrover, horsebox, horse and rider kit - that cost £1.99 - in her stocking), but I do buy ludicrous amounts of stationery items and craft bits there, to stick in the kids' Xmas stockings; and no complaints or things fallen apart so far.

Skrimble · 09/12/2005 00:33

The trick is to grab a box on the way round and fill that. Not handy if getting the bushome though .

OP posts:
thehockeyandtheivy · 09/12/2005 11:58

Can't comment on Lidl I'm afriad, I'm too scared of the clientelle in my local one every time I drive past to pop in (shameful I know - but then I work in Morrisons and thats bad enough - get sworn at by customers on a daily basis).

BUT on the frugal thread, gotta tell you about Boots... till Monday its triple points so I bought:-

Baby Annabell £32
Winnie the Pooh Fisher Price ball thing £25
V-Tech lap top £20 (FREE)

PLUS I got triple points so £10 worth of points on my card. So I spent £57, but if I use the points for necessities now I can say it all cost £47. Bargain really.

Also, cant believe how good Argos' deals are at the moment shame I've finished my shopping.

sorrelsleighbells · 09/12/2005 12:03

you could try here as well

collision · 09/12/2005 18:31

Today I bought ds's the ELC castle reduced from £20 to £13!! Bargain.

And...an ELC tape recorder for £10 down from £15 and some play dough for £2.50.

There are SO many bargains ATM.

Skrimble · 09/12/2005 21:24

sorrelsleighbells I like the ferret site, lets you see exactly how much you are saving, which with the 2 for for £..... isn't always that much. Good savings on some of the booze at Morrisons.
