What a nightmare.
Pulled down Lottie's old cot ready for the arrival of the new baby and we can't find the bits that hold it altogether.

We're certain we put the bits in a sandwich bag and cellotaped them to part of the cot, but they are not there now. We've looked around on the floor in the loft in case they dropped off and no sign.

I found the instructions for the cot with a phone number of the people who made it. Rang them and they said 'ohhh, it's quite old now, don't think we'll have spares for that now"

Gutted. What a massive pia.

Just incase anyone knows anything about spare parts for cots etcit's a Baltimore & Lisa Cot purchased from John Lewis 4 years ago.
We are missing *domed bolt (Allen Head), base hooks, Metal threaded caps, plastic plugs and the actual allan key.

How bloody irritating. Can't believe we might have to buy whole new cot just cos we're missing 4 bolt and 4 hooks

Gutted. THey must be there somewhere though surely? Have you had a good look with a torch?

Trophywife · 06/12/2005 17:44

misdee · 06/12/2005 17:46

i have spare bolts etc as well. and drop side catches as well possibly. they may work? they are fromt mothercare cot.

THOMCATsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 06/12/2005 17:52

I said to D that if anyone can help mumsnetters can I was hoping you might have ideas but if one of you has space screws, well, there is a God
I'll get D to scan in the leaflet that shows the bits that are missing and take measurements of how long the bolts should be etc.

Thanks, and here's hoping. Back laterthis evening or possible later this week, depending.

john lewis may help you
ot go to an iron munger?

nailpolishesvag · 06/12/2005 17:54

monger

THOMCATsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 06/12/2005 17:58

Yes our saving grace is that it's from John Lewis but I have a feeling they directed us to the people who made the cot, who can't help.
Ironmonger would be an idea if Trophywife or Misdee don't have bolts that would work, thanks.

If it comes to the crunch, a DIY approach with screws / hex head coach bolts would probably do the trick.

I can bring coach bolts to Sea Pebbles if you like, you can see if any look long enough / fat enough IYSWIM.

BTW - I bet the manufacturers do have these bits knocking around... they're not handmade by retired nuns in Baltimore... they're regular 'bits' - I'd send / fax them a copy of your instructions with an SAE and I bet you a portion of mushy peas you'll get the spares back.

fairydust · 06/12/2005 19:38

I have all the screws and bolts from our old cot so if you let us know what you need

misdee · 06/12/2005 19:40

well i guess i better go through my bolt/screw box then

THOMCATsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 06/12/2005 22:17

Bless you all. Hub, will do that hon', but bring bits with you on Sunday anyway if you don't mind, just incase. I'll keep the rest of you posted incase I come up against brick walls and need you. Thanks everyone, TC x

TC, does your loft flooring go all the way to the edge? Would it be worth scrambling around the edges with a torch to see if the bag might have dropped off and got knocked into the eaves? (We always sellotape the bag of bits to the bed/cot/whatever too and usually find it again, eventually, when we need it )

Good luck. Not long now...

Janh · 06/12/2005 22:21

That's D scrambling with torch, obv, not you!

hub2dee · 06/12/2005 23:03

She's up there now, JanH, isn't she ? LOL.

Will bring several boxes of magic bits, TC.

hub2dee · 06/12/2005 23:05

Erm... TC - don't go there, OK ? Get D to. Or else you can watch my lard arse disappear up into the void, LOL.

Janh · 06/12/2005 23:13

ooooh, nooo, hub, d'you think she's got stuck in the hatch?

hub2dee · 07/12/2005 08:35

Thomcat, come do right this instant, do you hear ?

That should have been 'down'.

Have catted beety.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2005 11:27

TC - surely the manufacturers are talking a load of utter, er, nonsense! THey may not make the cot any more but you can bet their new versions use the same bloody fixings - it's not a space rocket, it's a cot!!

Bet you can get them from B&Q anyway, they all sound standard tbh.

THOMCATsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 07/12/2005 21:13

I let D make the phone call to the manufacturer, think this may be a job for me, like most things!

OP posts:
hub2dee · 08/12/2005 10:29

Any further with this, TC ?

THOMCATsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 08/12/2005 20:23

Hi Hub
I went into John Lewis today and they rang the manufacturer and left a message with details of what was needed so I hope to hear back by Monday.
If that fails then John Lewis have someone who makes spare parts for them and the assistant I spoke to today said he should be able to sort it.

Finger crossed.

See you Sunday, x

Any replies from John Lewis? Or have you got the details of the person that manufactures for them?
