Our car doesnt have headrests at the back and now dds head is over the back of the seat, and I cant help but think that I really would like her to have a headrest. DD 4 has one of these
Which is fine for her.
Is that suitable for dd whos 8 too?

it says to age 11, apparently the law is changing so that boosters are compulsary up to 11 i think. MCare advised us that ones with a back on are better as give more support to delicate pelvises in the event of a crash.

just to let you know that THAT one did V poorly in the ehich test on car seats.

The Britax highliner or Britax kid or maxi cosy rodi on the other hand are similar in style and got MUCH better safety results and wre recommened (where as that one was to be avoided!)

I got a Britax highliner in mothercare on offer for £40 a few months ago, and ive ehrd it is (or at least was) on offer in toys R us as well!

And YES you SHOULD be using car seats for children until they are 36kg or 150cm (which for the average child is about 11) the law is changing in May 06 to state that children under 10 years AND under 135cm must use a child seat (tho a booster will be 'legal' a backed seat is obviously much safer, and recommended until they are 6 years / 22kg anyway!)

You are right tho, without a head rest if a car was to hit you from behind he will ptobably get bad whiplash without a proper head restraint!

charlie - we have two of these Concord Lift Pro and they are excellent (did very well in the Which? report too). Ds1 is a tall almost 9 year old and is perfectly happy to go in his - ds2 is almost 4, likewise. Very easy to transfer from car to car (though we use the fixing straps which makes the seat even more secure as we only have one car), very light - highly recommended by me and MN!

I was thinking the samething today, Ds is nearly 8 and his car seat is getting too small, so I need a new one for him, I don't care if he thinks car seats arefor babies, he will be in one till he is big enough (he is only 118cm tall )

DS1 will be 8 in february, and although I'd like him have some kind of booster, there is no way I can fit one in the back of the car. There just isn't the room between DS2's and DD's who, being younger, obviously need them more.

However, legally I suppose he won't need one as he is 132cm now, so will be way over that by May.

What do other people do when they have three in the back? (apart from buy people carriers of course!)

sit them in there with adult seat belts.

We used a concord one.

sparklymieow · 06/12/2005 07:37

emmmmmmmmm DS has SN and needs support in a car and also he is too small to just have a seatbelt on

LIZS · 06/12/2005 11:27

We can fit 3 across although the booster can't be very wide. ds is almost 8 and has a Maxi Cosi Rodi. There is still plenty of adjustment left for the headrest so not pans ot remove the back yet.
