Toy kitchens

We're looking for a toy kitchen for DD's second birthday - apparently she plays houses all day at nursery and was besotted with a plastic (little tyke?) kitchen when her grandmother took her to a friends to play with the friends grandaughter. Any suggestions? They vary a lot in price and 'facilities' - noises/sinks/cookers/ironing boards. Do Ikea/anywhere else do wooden (and silent) 'kitchens'?

Ikea definitely do have wooden items. I tend to think a stove rather than a full kitchen though. They also do an ironing board I think. One of the catologues (GLTC?) do a lovely wooden kitchen but v. expensive.

How much is your budget. You can get lovely individual items from Pintoys - wooden sink, cooker, washing m/c, microwave, dishwasher. cupboard - silent! They cost about £65 each (microwave about £35) - more from some stores. My dd has the sink and cooker and this xmas we'll get her and ds the washing m/c and microwave for the wendy house. They take up some space though. My sister got ironing board etc in Toys R us which is wooden - not sure of price but they are pretty good value usually.

Thanks for the suggestions, budget is about £45 tops I think. I figured the gorgeous wooden ones would be out. Which bits of the kitchen sets do your kids enjoy playing with most?

Woolworths has toy kitchens on sale at the moment - can't remember how much they are but it's definitely less than £45.

I love the little Tikes ones too - why don't you look on ebay.com and search for 'kitchen' in the toy/kids section.

DD has the Little Tikes kitchen aimed at children aged 12 months up. It's only small so doesn't take up much room but has a frdge, sink, hob, cooker and microwave. It has 3 sound effects - a pan that boils, a frying pan that fries, amd a timer. Cost about £25 I think.

DD also has lots of play food which she loves ;cooking' and serving up on to play dinner sets for daddy.

ELC do some fab food sets at the moment too that attach with velcro. DD has a pizza set where you cut it into pieces with a pretend knive - velco attaches pieces and makes cutting noise. You can get veggies and fruit that peel and slice, a birthday cake and ice creams too.

just bought a bargin ( I think!) at ToysrUs. Their FisherPrice toy kitchen was reduced to £29.99 from £59.99. It's as big as all the others, but half the price! One side is a kitchen ( hob, fridge, microwave, oven) and the other side is a store with a cash register, shelves, etc. etc.
hth someone!

For those of you with Beckham level incomes, www.luxurywoodentots.co.uk does replica agas and Smeg cookers. Also some sewriously nice cheaper wooden ones, but sadly I don't run a nursery and DD has an ELC version that her nain got her!

ThomCat · 03/11/2003 17:29

Why buy a toy kitchen? Attach child to stilts and let them have the run of the real thing!!!!

tinyfeet · 03/11/2003 17:34

We have the little tykes one. DD loves it. It's adorable even though it's plastic. Only the little stove and the dial make noise, but they're not bad sounds.

hana · 30/12/2003 15:02

just wanted to say that the toy kitchen I bought wasn't such a bargin after all! It was a 1/2 price deal at ToysRUs FisherPrice.
The dishwasher door doesn't shut properly, just falls to the ground - the store have none left....but Fisher Price have offered to take it back (it is old stock about 2 years old) and provide a replacement called Fun Folding Kitchen. So I think that's a good deal....it's smaller than the one I bought and doesn't have as many gizmos & gadgets but cheaper (I did get it 1/2 price) Hmmm. I will probably do the trade. Anyone else have this problem?

CordeliaScarlett · 15/10/2008 12:38

you can get all the pintoy range from www.john-crane.co.uk or see www.treasureislandtoys.co.uk too - guaranteed for life!! any parts go missing or break, which is unususual just email the john crane site and they'll send spares, you just pay for a bit of P&P...

Try this site for a great toy kitchen they have a great range of funky retro wooden kitchens and the prices arent to bad either just depends on your personal tastes I guess, and they have product videos so you can see them better.
