Seem to been buying bits and pieces for ages, but have just laid it out, and there's nothing 'substantial' sort of 'big-present'-ish...

Need some more ideas. So far Ive got...

Smart Lab Weather Station
Star Wars Lego
Dig-a-glow Dinosaur
Neopower Sword
Lego CD Rom fun pack
Narnia Jigsaw
China Mug
Best Bug jellies
Geode Rock
Foaming Batman soap
Mini Mandala
2 x expanding flannels
Jumping Beans
Pocket Volcano
Annual - England World Cup
Yo Yo
Book of Science experiments
Books - Girls Keep Out!
I wonder why ? Books

WHat else, what else???? Ideas please...

jinglinggoblin · 01/12/2005 23:42

the big presents my 5 and 6 year olds are getting are a thomas the tank electric train set, a large thunderbird 3 and a digital camera each (which are pretty good but very cheap off ebay)

followthestarlover · 01/12/2005 23:47

a puppy!

clary · 01/12/2005 23:55

my 6yo is getting a box of magnetix (he has some but not enough), orchard Toys jigsaw, Junior Monopoly and some books.
Not sure if any of that is "big". Magnetix was £10 on offer in Asda.
Gameboy I think you have quite a bit there. How about a Playmobil set or some more Star Wars stuff eg a light sabre?

Gameboy · 02/12/2005 13:46

Yes - must admit - looked at this this morning and thought oh no, people will think I have a spoilt brat

Clary - the neopower sword is a sort fo light sabre without being the full 3 ft version. I have got DS2 (3) one as well - but worried that with the big ones they really would demolish the house....

DH & discussed it last night and came to the conclusion that we've mostly bought what we want him to have (IYSWIM) rather than things he has said he 'wants' at various points - mostly because I think he's just influneced by TV ads, and I don't want more plastic crap around the house...

Did wonder about some sort fo RObo dog or something?

Thunderbirds is a good idea, but DS2 is gettign a THunderbird 1 and we already have 2 & 3 !

(I do think your ds is looking lucky already!! - though quite of lot of those are for his stocking, aren't they?)

My ds (6) (and two-thirds, he'll have you know) is getting from us:

  • a Skyrail suspension thing marble run (this costs £40+, so that's his big present, and it's from us and my mum & dad too)
  • a subscription to Aquila mag
  • a stocking, which will have stationery items, sweets, a tangerine, £2 and a notebook to write music in

I bought my ds a really big remote control car, it has music, lights, the works. I bought it in Tesco's for £50, it's really good value if you compare it to similar remote control cars. In fact, I saw one almost identical in Asda's for about £70.

Serenade · 02/12/2005 14:23

Roboraptor?
seem to quite popular this year, they are £49.99 in woolies(think offer ends sunday though)

teeavee · 02/12/2005 14:25

i take it he already has a bike?

remote control car is bound to please

festiveface · 02/12/2005 14:31

my 6 year old is having a snooker table

TurkeyGang · 02/12/2005 14:38

This was on QVC the other day and looked fantastic if he's a boy who likes making things work.

A few weeks ago a I sent for a similar kit from QVC for my ds for Christmas because it looked such fun.

Aaargh - link won't work - it's item no: 734629. That will take you straight to it.

binkie · 02/12/2005 16:08

Just in case anyone [ie roisin ] has a child like mine, have a look at The Happy Puzzler website.

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 02/12/2005 16:20

Turkeygang, I bought something very similar to that on QVC a couple of weeks ago. It didn't have the mouth though, it was more robot like. It's great fun putting it all together, but even though they say it's from 5 up, I found the pieces really hard to connect together, it is so stiff. Even my dp had to help me. I can see my ds becoming very frustrated with it. Have you tried putting yours together. Perhaps I've just got a dodgy one.

TurkeyGang · 02/12/2005 18:03

No, I haven't! That's a bit worrying. Ds is only 4 so I was dithering about whether he would be able to do it.

If he can't dh will help him and he can do the remote control bit.

Wondering if I was truly sane to order something with 105 bits in it though tbh

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 02/12/2005 18:24

I bought it after seeing the demo on the tele, it did look absolutely perfect for my ds who's 5. I have used it myself a few times and I feel it's loosening up abit. But your ds will at least be able to put the cogs on, it's just the basic structure of it that he won't be able to do. I still don't regret buying it though, if my ds doesn't want it, I'll have it

wewishyouaClaryChristmas · 02/12/2005 22:45

blimey serenade, roboraptor for £50!!!
It's more like £80 everywhere else.
I had to test one out with some small children (for work) the other day and though they were fascinated (as were my own when I took it home for the evening) I wouldn't say it was worth the money unless your child was very gadget keen. Limited learning value I felt.
Also even £50 is a lot more than I would spend on one toy (except a bike or a climbing frame, maybe).

BadHair · 02/12/2005 23:07

It's not a "big" present, but Tescos have Walkie Talkies for a fiver which I've been buying for every kid's birthday party that ds1 has been invited to. They're black and silver and look fairly realistic, ie not babyish.
Obviously ds1 doesn't know it yet, but FC is bringin g him one for Christmas too.
