Anyone got any good recommendations for CDs for a 4y old and a 6y old. They have outgrown nursery rhymes, children's songs and currently love a Disney compilation CD we have but I would like to vary the monotony a bit . Any other suggestions?

my dd was given a cd called Pop Junior(I think) its in the car so will check later on.

Its quite good, has a range of pop songs and some kiddies ones like Bob the builder and tweenies etc etc.

DD is 2 and loves listening to it in the car.

pop junior

there is also a dvd with it, pop videos etc, have not looked at that yet so cannot say what its like.

My two are obssessed with an old Kenny Rogers tape they found in DH's car

They keep singing "You picked a fine time to leeeeave me Luccillllle".

I play Lotbags adult music. She listens to House FM, jazz, soul, reggae, etc etc. Get them into Theolonius Monk or soemthing! They'll thank you when they're older

Saker · 30/11/2005 18:11

Thanks for the suggestions - I will look into them.
Lol Sandyballs, it's funny what they take to and very hard to predict.

TC - yes I do play them some adult music but Ds2 especially is not very keen on it at the moment. I think he likes to be able to work out the words. Ds1 is a lot more open minded so hopefully Ds2 will grow into it.

DD who's 4 is currently into Antony & The Johnsons. She says it's lovely floaty music & I quite agree. We've got the disney Princess CD & I'm up the pole with it, hence the grown up music leanings at present. We'll be back to Pop goes the Tweenies or whatever next week.

We have the "Go Teddy Go" CD from this website ; it's really good for chidlren this age (mine are age 1, 4 & 6). Music suitable & fun for kids but not dull for adults.

Soem proper bands have recently released Cds. Up the Wooden Hill to Bedfordshire by St Etienne and No by They Might Be Giants. Very fab.

nikkie · 30/11/2005 21:02

I've just been looking on here for my two.

mazzystar · 30/11/2005 21:08

meant to say St Et and TMBG albums for children. my one year old loves them

ThomCat · 30/11/2005 21:46

We're cruel and just never played her kids music
Lottie's dad is a DJ and has released his own dance music and other peoples so just can't do kids music! So poor kid only gets nursery rymes sung to her by me and her nana! Still she actually loves dancing in daddy's arms as he mixes so I shouldn't feel too bad, hopefully she won't grow up too scarred!

What about the singing kettle , never yet met a kid who doesn't like them. If they really like it you can take them to the live shows as they seem to be touring all over the country now.We went to see them during the summer and I think Dp enjoyed them more than Dd
The worst thing is I have a cd in the car and suddenly realise I'm driving to work singing along with them even after I've dropped her off.

Jbck · 30/11/2005 22:21

mazzystar I loved TMBG, I can't believe they do kids stuff. Just checked out their site, guess what DD will be getting in her stocking.

BadHair · 30/11/2005 22:23

We have Pop Junior and it's fine if you can play it to them while you're far away - will drive you insane otherwise. Unless you like the Fast Food Song.
There's a My First Album or something like that that looks quite good. Has pop stuff plus TV themes like Postman Pat on it. Father Christmas might be bringing it if he's asked nicely.
